november / december is a more expensive time to travel to NYC as a lot of people go.. so double check hotel reservations before you book your flight..
thanks markymoo. I've consulted with Big Sis and agreed it's gonna be a bit pricey. So might go in april now (time to save too!) and go to finland instead.
I can't remember what airline it was but it was on one of the screenscrapers.

Hi - hope this isn't in the wrong place!

We're flying to NY from Manchester next week, with Continental Airways. I've booked a veggie meal, but in my experience veg food on planes is usually awful! Normally I'd take a few bits of my own; fruit, mixed nuts, maybe the odd cereal bar - just enough to keep me going if the food turns out to be inedible!

But I've suddenly thought - will I be allowed to take food on, or is it banned? Would packaged stuff (i.e not fresh fruit) be OK?

    Thanks for any advice!

Have just had an email from Airline Network stating that there's a 4 day sale on.

Flights to NY with US Airways are being advertised at £194. Travel dates 1st November - 20th March. Looks like it's going from Gatwick but I haven't had a look to see what the restrictions or any further details are.

Here's the link - I've never done it before so hope it works!!

I'm going to NY next May so no good for me. Hope it helps someone though!

PS I've just gone in and had a look and possibly cheap flights because they're not direct??

'food' isn't a problem as long as you adhere to the rules on liquids. to be ultra safe don't take any of the fresh food through US customs

    Hello,

I'm a first timer on this board - it's so great that everything New York is in one place!

We're looking to go to New York for 6 days around 27th May next year (although can be flexible by a few days). The cheapest direct flight I can find at the moment is Zoom at £310. I'm tempted to wait until the next round of sales (maybe after Christmas?) but my mum is worried that we should book now.... any thoughts?

    Thanks for your help

There is already a thread on this board New York Questions and Answers- where you will see it's broken down into bargain flights, hotels and shopping. You will find lots of useful info from MSErs there, however for your initial queries for May next year I would probably wait. BA always start their sale about 27 December and remember Zoom( mixed reviews on this site) is basically a low cost airline, so £310 seems quite a lot to pay.
Gingababe's query about hotels is also covered on the thread I have just mentioned. I am a great follower of Trip Advisor, not just for NY but all our hotels this summer( tour of Europe) were booked on the strength of the reports on TA and they were briliant.
Markymoo is a regular poster on this board and speaks very highly of the Cosmopolitan Hotel in NY, which is also very reasonable and where we are looking to book for next April.

Can anyone offer some advice. Am going to NYC in August 2008 (the last week). When might be the best time to book, now as it'll be school hols here so I'm sceptical as to whether there might be a bargain to be had, or should I wait and until when???

    Many Thanks!

    Flights..

Book now or leave it til the last minute.

These are my thoughts in this dilema..

I've been to NYC, about 9 - 10 times over the past 6 years (i have lost count!) and i've rarely booked more than 3 months in advance.

the most i've ever paid for a flight to NYC from Manchester airport (including 1 change) is £240. The cheapest I have ever paid is £180.

Flight prices have crept up a little bit, so I would say if you find a flight from your preferred airport at around £250 (i'm currently looking at a direct flight from Continental, from MAN to EWR, and that is about £255), that is a reasonable fare. Anything under £200 is classed as a bargain. Personally, I'd never pay anything over £275

It is up to yourself to what you want to pay.
Keep looking on the websites (expedia etc etc) as flight prices can change daily. I've never had a problem in getting a flight around 3 months before.

I hope this mini guide helps people in understanding when to book, and what is a good price.

  • Hi everyone,

I am going to NY next September but want to go premium class (to get extra leg room) which is the best airline with regards to price for this kind of trip. Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks Julie
