When I book through flyzoom after entering the NYUpgrade1 code and selecting my flights it makes no mention of the free premium upgrade. Am I missing something or do they add the upgrade after it's completely booked?0

Hi guys, first post on here, but don't worry, been watching for a while and thanks go to markymoo for all the good advise.
Well i finally booked a flight and hotel. So we're going, yey!!
I got american airlines manchester to jfk, via heathrow, but very good connection times, and at the right price. £505 for the two of us in Nov.
One thing that's really concerning me, and i'd like anyone's 2 pence worth on this, is that there are no decent seats available to reserve on our flight.
I'd obviously like 2 seats together on they're own by the window, fine plenty on the 777 that we are gonna fly on, but they're all taken. So i've had to "reserve" two centre seats together, just because i'm scared we won't get to sit together. This is less than ideal, this is me and the girlfriend's 1st long haul flight, and i want it to be perfect. Even more so on the way back, it's a night flight and i don't want to sleep next to anyone else.
Customer services are useless, however the internet say that some seats are held back for check in on the day, is this true? Do you think there's any chance of an upgrade? Or am i just being a fool, for all i know, the centre seat on an aa 777 might be huge???
Any help appreciated.

if you have reserved your seats online, and you have 2 centre seats (i'm assuming the layout on the plane is AB CDEFG HJ)you have DE or EF, it will mean you sit together, they won't change your seats, (it isn't like budget flying on AA). however, if you haven't got seats together on the way back, that is what it is!
you might be lucky and you could change your seats online, any time til you check in, but if there are no window / aisle seats available right now, i doubt there will be any nearer to the time, unless you get to the airport nice and early and request exit / bulkhead seats.. (row 20 is bulkhead and row 31 is exit)
also, i've flown plenty of times, and never got an operational upgrade flying transatlantic, and i'm a solo traveller, which is only one UG, not 2...(i've had a cheap cheap upgrade because of a mess up before, so $200 wasn't a bad deal, but never free!)
also, check out https://www.seatguru.com for a layout of your plane,
Pitch is 32.0" width of seat is 18-18.5"0 -

This site has links at the bottom of the page.
The taxi fare is regulated. If you arrive during the day it may be more MSE to get the trains etc. Late at night may be better to get a taxi.0 -
Hi all,
I'm looking for a 5 night break for two people from Nov 14th. Got to be back by 19th November. If anyone's willing to find me a good 3*+ hotel as well-I'd be really grateful. A suprise break for my partner's birthday-he's worth it-but lack of time prevents me searching.
Also there are so many more people on here who have much greater skills at finding the best.
Thank you in advance

can you let us know what airport you wish to fly from... i'll do a bit of generic searching in the mean time0
-
From Manchester - Via Amsterdam - £266 - KLM
From Gatwick - Via Philadelphia - £216 - US Airways
From Heathrow - £277 - Direct - Virgin
From Heathrow - £263 - Direct - American Airlines
Either booking through Expedia, or the flyaow link on page 2 of this thread (American Express)
All these flights are flying out on the 14th, returning on the 18th, giving you 5 nights in NYC... you land back in the UK on the 19th.
Do you know where you want to stay in NYC? Maybe someone else could help with the hotel, as i don't really stay in Midtown, which most people want to. I stay in Tribeca, which is about 10 minutes on the subway away from midtown...
However, (going from https://www.hotelconxions.com) ..
my choice of hotel - the cosmopolitan works out at £432
there doesn't seem to be a lot of availability around those dates, so i'm struggling to find other hotels..
some choices and prices
Cosmo - £432 (2*) #69
Ameritana - £811 (3*) #215
Belleclaire - £641 (2*) #109
Edison - £653 (3*) #171
Roger Smith Hotel £772 (3*) #126
now looking at these hotels and prices, you can see that * ratings probably don't mean that much...
i've only checked one website, so there may be other availablity at other hotels, on other sites. All these hotels, were available at the time of searching. Anyway, it gives you some idea. all prices are including tax, using a standard exchange rate of $2 = £1 (i think todays exch is 2.02) and is when you use a commission free credit card, such as the Post Office, or Nationwide.
Always check tripadvisor for reviews, but i've added the overall placing out of 339 New York hotels, after the * rating...
so the cheapest holiday you could go for is - £864 for the cheapest 2 flights, and the cheapest hotel.
Phew.. what a long post now
