  • Available hotels in New York Prices shown are in and not including applicable taxes and service fees. A price in red indicates that the room is on request only.

This is off the Cosmo Hotel web site, so will the price shown not be that you pay, and these taxes need to be added on? Sorry if i seem dense. This year we booked through lastminute.com and paid the price shown on the screen and that was it- maybe taxes were included in the overall amount I can't remember.

yeah.. most hotel websites don't include the taxes etc, which is why i book through hotelconxions..

i've double checked stuff last night, and hotelconxions are cheaper than booking directly... :|

Can anyone help me out with the cheapest flights from london on these dates - 3 adults and 1 infant.

I have found zoom at £990 but would rather not fly from gatwick if I can help it.

heathrow or stansted would be preferable.

    Thanks.

how old is the infant, under 2? if not, you'll probably end up paying normal price, but i'd like to double check...

i've done a quick search for them dates.. from heathrow, direct with BA, is £321 each..

from stanstead you're looking at a cost of £318 each, with American Airlines

all these are basic searching from LHR or STN to NYC (which is a collective code for all 3 New York airports) on expedia.

Personally, i'd wait til after christmas, and start searching when promos appear. .

Goodness me I've got myself into a muddle!
How does everyone book? Do you book the flights and hotel seperately? Or do you book them together?
Can anyone help please? We want to go for a week in June anytime after the 4th.
We want to book a return flight to NY from London preferably (but elsewhere if loads cheaper) and a hotel which is cheap but not scuzzy - own bathroom/toilet!
This is for myself and a friend, so 2 seats and 2 beds (but 1 room).
Also, is it best to book now, or wait a while?
    Thanks! xx

Before everyone jumps on the cheap flight band wagon its really important to check the prices of hotels, which can be huge. I spent weeks looking to put a package together ie I found cheap flights and then couldnt find a reasonable hotel or vice versa, in the end I found the cheapest way was to book the lot through expedia, alas forgot about quidco doh!!

And my one tip for new york is to get your out of towners card from Macys which will give you 11% off of all your shopping, you can get the card from the customer service centre which is on floor 1.5

all the best & happy bargain hunting

  • rebl43: I think if you take a look at the various threads on this site you will find your answers, notably Markymoo is a wealth of knowledge on all thing NY. I think you will find most people book flights( when they can get the best deal) then hotels later. I have just booked my BA flights with the World Sale now rather than wait till Jan sale as I think the price was right for me and if like this year, will be more expensive in Jan. I am probably going with Markymoo's suggestion of the Cosmo in NY. My other choice is Casablanca but it's a bit more expensive, but you do get a decent breakfast included and wine/cheese reception each evening.

    rebl43: hello!

welcome to the new york cheap flights thread... (i might as well pretend to be professional, before i start blabbering about NYC)

soooo.. first time.. where to start.. it seems complex at first, but with a bit of planning, you could be booked, packed and ready to go in days!! (honestly!)

the first time i went to NYC, i ended up doing a buy flights / hotels seperately. We had decided on the Edison Hotel, and couldn't get a package, so i ventured into the way of doing things seperately. and i've never looked back..

firstly, you need to be flexible with your dates, (which is looks like you already are) and make sure you include a saturday night, as that makes your flight cheaper. also, you need to set a realistic budget for your hotel stay, and read everything, and re read everything before you book, as you don't want to book and pay for your hotel, and then have to pay more, as you forgot about the taxes, which are sometimes not included.

As for flights, you're thinking about going in June, you really don't have to rush. Unless it hits the same time as a major holiday, or a special event, you'll find that sooner or later an airline will have a promo on and a reasonable flight price will appear. By my meaning of reasonable, i mean under £250 per person, including all taxes.

I've done 10 trips to NYC, and never paid more than £250 for a flight, and i fly from Manchester airport. Ideally, you want a price under £200. Once this appears, you book it straight away. The cheapest I've got a flight for was about 3 - 4 years ago (ooh the trips just blur into one!) and was £175. so that gives you an idea about flight prices.

I will still recommend the Cosmopolitan Hotel, where to stay, because it is ultra clean, reasonably priced, and a quiet enough location to get a good nights sleep. However, it is about 10 mins away (on subway) from the hustle and bustle of the tourist attraction known as Times Square. (honestly, there is nothing there apart from flashing lights, and tourist trap shops / restaurants!)

There are plenty of hotels around Times Sq, and some people also recommend the Radio City Apartments, (which i looked into, and would recommend, as i've not heard anything bad about them)

You may find you have to book either a triple or a quad room, to get your 2 beds requirements, as twin rooms are a rarity as far as i know.

as for budget, a room with 2 beds in a reasonable class of hotel (2* is reasonable) should set you back around the $200 - $220 (£100 - £110) a night mark. This price will also give you a private bathroom. I also am a stickler for wanting a private bathroom, and will never go for really cheap with a shared bathroom.

So, that'll do for now, i'm not that knowledgable, i just enjoy NYC, so share a bit of knowledge around..

We're always here to help, so don't worry, run things past us moneysavers here first, as i'm willing to search for flights / hotels once you decide more on dates and where you want to stay!!

    Thanks Markymoo - very helpfull.

Do you think that I could save money waiting untill jan then? the infant will be under 2.

We will be in the states for 2 weeks but only staying in newyork for the last 2 nights as will be travelling around New York state/ New England for the first few days.

Who would be best to fly with as they all seem pretty similar in price at the moment (zoom £990, ba £1075, air india £1030, AA £1100).

    Thanks again

Thanks Markymoo, You have given me a lot of help here. I was quoted a "special discounted price" of £390 for the flights and was told that I would not get any better!

  • Rebl43: I think you will the next time there is a sale. FYI the BA sale this Jan had seats HRW- JFK for £279.00, and i would think it would be about the same next time. This sale usually kicks off just after Christmas, other wise, there will be other airlines who have special offers on too. As to which airline, well I always travel BA on business, and am going with them to NY next April, KLM are good too, but no doubt other posters will offer advice.
