New York Hotels Thread

Another merry evening spent trying to find beds in the right combination. DH has confirmed he doesn't really want to spend 3 nights with a boy in the room, and I'm sure the boys feel the same way (he snores for England!) Equally I can't see them wanting to share a bed, even a big bed.
Some of the hotel booking websites don't let you specify more than five adults, others don't let you specify more than one room, it just goes on ...
So, since I can't be the first person to want to take a party of five 'grownups', anyone got any tips? Please?
I don't know if it's any help but when I went to NY a few months ago I stayed at the Sohotel (I DO NOT recommend it by the way!) and we had booked a double double room (bed with 2 double beds) and for some reason when we got there they had "upgraded" our room so we ended up with 3 beds in our room (2 doubles, 1 single).
It might be worth e-mailing a few hotels to see if they do these sort of rooms too. I imagine family friendly hotels would, better business for them. You could then book the rooms through a website that offers a better rate and then e-mail them again with your details and your request for the additional bed.0 -
Thanks, I shall try that.
So what's the worst thing that could happen? We arrive and the bed combination is all wrong - so they have to put up with sharing a bed. As long as there's no-one but DH in my bed ... :rotfl:
And I will have TRIED. They think I'm very trying ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Well, I have given up trying to search for alternatives, and booked us all into the Cosmo, two double rooms.
When asked if they'd be prepared to share a bed, DS2 said he thought he'd survive, DS1 said he'd rather one of them shared a bedroom with us, and DS3 said he didn't mind if they had to share a bed as long as HE didn't! :rotfl:
I am pretty sure that faced with DH snoring and sharing a bed, they'll see sense. And it IS only for three nights ...
Ended up booking through Hotels.com because Hotelconxions didn't have the flexibility to deal with 5 people in two rooms, whereas Hotels.com did. Will let you all know how it worked out.
Now, that just leaves the travel insurance, the hire car for the rest of our visit, and accommodation in Wildwood, NJ to sort out!
I have already started my shopping list ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
If you are there for 3 nights they should get a bed to themselves 1 night and share for 2..."should" be no arguments then.0

I can see that, and you can see that, and as they've all done / are about to do A level Maths you would think they could see that too, but ... the youngest was trying to convince me that I was only due 97p change from £3 on a purchase which had cost £1.98 the other day! :rotfl:
Locking them in and leaving them to it may be the best solution: they are young, after all, and don't need much sleep.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Sorry I haven't read the entire thread so don't know if it has been mentioned, but we stayed at the YMCA hostel. It was the cheapest thing we found (can't remember exactly) and we got a private room, but shared bathroom. It is in a really posh part of town, with views over the lower end of central park, 1 block from trump towers! It also has a free gym and swimming pool, and a cafe underneath. The area is also very safe and the hostel really friendly. We stayed on the 14th floor and the views were fantastic.
PS you get bunkbeds too so no worrying about sharing a bed! (I went with my sister)
You can also get all combinations of rooms, ie doubles, a room for 3 etc0 -
hotelconxions are loads cheaper though..
and you book each room individually with hotelconxions and get 2 booking references...
but, if you want to pay over £100 more.. i'm not going to comment...
this is why i've retired from answering every post on these threads, because people dont' ask, don't listen and i feel like i'm wasting my time..0 -
We have been to N.York twice. The first time we stayed at the Barclays International hotel which was had a very impressive lobby and lounge. The room however were very dark and dismal with a rubbish view and the decor very old fashioned. The rates were very pricey too On our second trip there we stayed at Club Quarters Rockefeller . This is a fab location, minutes away from Times Square and as the name suggests right next to Rockefeller centre. It has a small lobby that you can check yourself in or ask the friendly staff to do for you. The rooms are average sized, very modern. The bathroom is deluxe with a great powershower. The bed linen and pillows are excellent quality. The view from our window was fab. The roof terrace is great for snacks and free coffee and water is provided. There is also a gym in the hotelWe got this at a bargain price online. I would def recommend this hotel and plan to stay there on my next trip0

Hi,
I had the pleasure of winning £2k on Quizcall at the weekend and I want to fulfill my lifelong dream of travelling to America (well New York).
I am happy with the flights from Virgin, but am at a loss when finding a 'decent' affordable hotel in New York or New Jersey.
I would consider a apartment as I can cookbut I hope someone reading has had been to NY and booked online and would recommend anywhere.
Few other bits of information... I am travelling alone and can easily arrange airport transporation etc.
Heartfelt thanks for any advice :beer:0 -
Hi TParker,
Welcome to MSE, and congrats on your win!
There is a great thread at the top of the board all about New York, and to look for good value hotels if you search for Priceline you will find lots of hints and advice there.
I would find you the links but I need my bed. If you can't find them, I'll insert them when I'm next awake! xGone ... or have I?0
