As suggested by RichTeaBiscuit either register on Betterbidding and ask the question there (Need the dates of the stay) and\or read this guide.

dmg24.... if you're staying at the W next time you go to NYC, i'm going in your suitcase.... unless i can get a room rate of around $200 a night.. *grins*

the W at Union Square looks amazing though.. from the outside...
  • With the risk of getting slaughtered and told to post on the hotel thread I thought I'd stick my question on the end of this thread, as when I search for the word 'hostel' in the hotel thread nothing (except 1 irrelevant thing) comes up! And I canne afford, nor do I want to stay in, a Hotel.

This is quite an old thread but I thought I'd bump it to see if anyone has stayed in a good NY HOSTEL recently?

I will check out the above but this is a 2006 thread so there may be some newbies.

I am also reasearching through hostelworld.com but the reviews seems so mixed and I can't find anything that convinces me....

I will be on my own (young(ish) female) so security and friendliness is really a must for me. Only going to stay 3/4 nights though....

I would still recommend the Chelsea Hostel!

It's directly opposite a Police Precinct so it's mega safe and it's in a cool nieghbourhood.

I stayed there again in Feb 08 and it was still as I described earlier on!

anything below 30th street is a better area to be in, than say, midtown / central park area.. the areas are generally safer and quieter IMO, and i've been to NYC many times, so wandered the streets aimlessly.. which is a fabulous thing to do..

  • Now look what's happened  who moved that hey?hehe *GSF ducks*

Anyways...I had a look at the chelsea one, will certainly consider it!

Knackered now though, exhausting this HOSTEL searching work...!

Lost this thread for a while!

My friend is staying at the W this weekend! Think he is at the Times Square one, don't know how much he has paid, I am still in a strop with him for not being there when I was!

Funniest thing on my lovely little tourist bus thingy ... there is a stop for the Waldorf Astoria, saying how great and fantastic it is. I have friends who stayed there, and hated it. Dated, and dirty. But just as the bus pulls away I remember that we are next to the W ... I could have really done with the Bliss Spa around that time! ;)
    Gone ... or have I?

You'll be fine. I can get lost anywhere (including my own back yard), but if you get lost in NY you really don't need to worry ... something will look familiar eventually! Last time I was there I thought I was lost, turned a corner and there appeared the restaurant mm had recommended to me! x

that something familiar was times square for me, does the place have a giant magnet under it? doesn't matter where we headed thats were we ended up everytime!!

whoever was asking about hostels, stay clear of the washington (125th street) a cupboard has more room!!!! the 'room' must of been built around the bunkbeds and we had to have the door open to have room to do anything
