I've stayed out at Newark and gone into Manhattan-was especially handy for BB Kings (Marky Moo you're missing out by dismissing it just because it's right by the Port Authority
)
Other trips I wouldn't stay anywhere but Manhattan-depends what my plans are for the stay-one size definitely doesn't fit all.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
But markymoo you need to open your mind a bit , you are a single man I think , with a family of children as we have we just would not do that. I did say it was right for us and the point is if you read the reviews on this hotel it is right for some other people too , the point is for people to have choices.
Not everyone will have or want to have the holiday you have. We went for 10 days and we have small children so you cant go out early come back go out again etc -they can only take so much.
Try not to shoot everyone down who doesn't think like you. The info was given for a person with a family who asked for options to stay o/s of NY.
Go and price for a family of 5 in Ny in a hotel with two rooms-suite -with a fridge and microwave and you would see that £48 a day plus 2 adults at £5 a day is a pretty brill deal for us and those like us.
I have appreciated reading your info before my trip but your choice of hotel was definately not right for us.
Is your hotel not £100 a night for a room for 2?
Nope, its a room for 4... (2 double beds), and there are options for a slight bit more, for a room with 2 double beds, and an extra sofa bed...
and i've travelled with family, and a disabled traveller before, so please don't jump to assumptions!
Doing the back and forth to the hotel is perfect for shopping, as you can drop things off and not have to carry things all day. and also you can relax at your hotel, read, rest, and then continue your shopping. doing as you said would tire people in party even more, and would be more of a hinderance... This is about moneysaving in NYC, and i don't feel that for a family, or a couple, paying so much money to go backwards and forwards is money saving..
You obviously don't know anything about me, as i NEVER start early.... I'm not saying i don't finish late though..
I appreciate what you're saying, but what you have to bear in mind is that not everyone thinks that Times Square is all NYC has to offer, also, NJ is NJ, and not NYC!0 -
You never waste 90 minutes of your life on holiday with your children-every minute whether it is seeing things or chatting on a bus is very precious!0

Of course if you need to carry shopping it can deter you from buying so becomes even more moneysavingI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I've been to BB Kings... how am i missing out
Seriously though, if you're going to stay OUT of Manhattan, the logical moneysaving way is to stay in Brooklyn or Queens. As you can get hotels there for around the same price as NJ, and it is a lot cheaper at only $1.50 to get into manhattan using the subway!
Maybe it is the whole NJ isn't NY, it is NJ after all... (and i've travelled to places in NJ.. !)0 -
You might find something in this article in the Telegraph recently.
Personally I'm never disappointed with the Radio City Apartments.

Me and my mum will be going to New York for a week on the 5th of July. We need a hotel right in the heart of New York which will be quite close to the shops and attracations. We also need a hotel with two beds we don't care if they are single or double. I would like the hotel to have air conditioning and free wifi access. I don't really want to spend more than $120 a night. We would like bed and breakfast but we could do without that. Also having a fridge in our room would be nice also. Can anybody recommend something for us?
The flights seem really expensive right now about £400-£500 maybe i am just looking in the wrong places.0 -
hotels in NYC are notoriously expensive all year around... $120 a night for a room with 2 beds in, isn't going to be easy, especially if you want to stay in Manhattan!
hotelconxions.com comes up with Astor on the Park, which is $135 a night before taxes and has 2 beds in the room... however wireless isn't free.... i can't really find anything else
as for your flight, i have just found £337 return from Manchester with British Airways...0 -
Thanks markymoo i will take a look at that website that you recommended.
We live in London i think that the date that we are going the 5th of July maybe independence day i think so that maybe pushing the price up. Maybe we might travel a week before or after if it could bring the price down.
We went to Florida in mid July last year and the price of the flights was about as expensive as it is to fly to NYC now. I would have thought that the latter would have been quite a bit cheaper.0 -

As this is on a Friday this year it makes for a long weekend in NYC.
Good news is that the 'suits' will be out of town so business hotels may be cheaper, however there could be an influx of US tourists that make soem hotel prices rise.
Flights from UK may be affected due to some US types taking the long weekend homeWe need a hotel right in the heart of New York which will be quite close to the shops and attracations. We also need a hotel with two beds we don't care if they are single or double.I would like the hotel to have air conditioning and free wifi access.
