opodo won't include taxes, so thats kinda pricey... what exact dates?

have you tried hotelconxions.com they are ALWAYS cheaper than the cosmos direct website... even if it doesn't say available, and says REQUEST, still try, as they'll get hold of a room for you!

i've randomly chosen a 2 night stay in april at the cosmo, and including taxes it is £239.94, however, you do have to pay in advance, hence getting a cheaper rate..

  • Hello, thanks for the replies. I found your Pod comments after I lost my post and realised it had been moved here :)

But now it seems Cosmo is much cheaper than the Pod, so the Cosmo it is.

Thanks for the hotelconxions link, it's $200 cheaper for the same dates.

A question...the hotelconxions site is in dollars, am I best to pay on a credit card or debit card? Is there a way for me to find out what would be best. I have an Amex card (nectar) and a Morgan Stanley (1% cashback).

IMO, always pay with a credit card, then you have some recourse if something goes wrong..

i've used hotelconxions now 6 times, and they've never failed me yet... remember that it will be about 2.75% for a currency conversion on either of the cards... so whichever gives you the best "back" will reduce this slightly.... Nationwide is the best, as you've probably heard, as they don't charge at all..

  • Thanks markymoo. Yes, I've just been reading about the best cards/accounts for abroad. I think I shall get myself a Nationwide flex account for spending in the US...although I need to read up a little more. Thanks for your help.
  • I just got my Nationwide bill the other day for my reservation at the Cosmopolitan. Then I put money into my Nationwide flex account and take both those cards with me, with only a small amount of ready currency. Loads of places to withdraw money without any charges.
I booked though lastminute.com last year and there were no extra taxes/ fees to pay with them either, althouigh for a different hotel.
  • can you use Nationwide cards overseas at ATMs without getting charged?

nationwide DEBIT card yes.. .as long as the machine doesn't charge a fee, there are no fees for withdrawing your cash..

now, if you use a credit card, for a cash advance, normal cash advance rules apply... (but again, no currency conversion)

    Hi all,

My girlfriend and I stayed at The Pod, in mid-December, and we would highly recommend it!
we had a bunkbed-pod room- it was the cheapest option. It worked out about £90 a night, per room, which seemed a bargain (for NY!). You get bunk beds, but each bed has its own seperate TV, which was a nice touch.

It was shared bathrooms- which worried us both- but we shouldnt of worried!
There were 4 bathrooms per floor- and all were wonderful!- spotless, clean and tidy- soothing music, and a large, impressive shower in each!

Another nice touch was that the rooms have a little indicator in, letting you know when the bathrooms are in use or vacant- so no wandering around and waiting outside a bathroom, in bare feet! (it was so clean and spotless, we had no qualms wandering to the bathroom for a shower at night, barefooted!)

There is a great PAX shop at the end of the street too- selling lovely sandwiches and cakes, perfect for a quick coffee and breakfast in the morning, or a late night snack in the evening!

Would highly recomend the pod- would recomend the Affina Dumont too- but only for those with a bigger budget!

good location, good price, and very clean and tidy.

we were so worried, we only booked for 4 nights of a 6 night stay, and had booked the last 2 nights in the much more expensive Affinia Dumont. We wished we'd stayed in the pod the whole time, and saved the money!

We loved it so much, we are looking to go back this year, when we can- looking at around September/October time!

    Thanks in advance
  • Hi,

My wife and myself are travelling to New York for 4 nights in June 24th - 28th.

We were looking to stay at the Sofitel or Hilton Times Square.. the prices seem ridiculous but want to make our trip safe and enjoyable.
Anyone got any travel site tips or coupon codes for either hotels??
