blindman.. i wish i had to nerve sometimes to say exactly what you said just there....
now, $200 a night will get you a room with 2 beds, free wifi, and also air con.. yes you've guessed which hotel it is... so i won't bore you with the details.
as for bed and breakfast... add on $2, and you should be able to get a bagel and a coffee from your corner deli...
I totally agree with the "be in the centre of it all" if you stay ANYWHERE in manhattan, you're in the centre of it all, as you can get the subway to many places in under 20 minutes...0 -
Hello,
Just thought I'd post my thoughts on The Cosmopolitan Hotel and it's location.
I got a little nervous as on trip advisor there was a recent review complaining of the road work noise. I would say don't be put off by that. There is currently road works by the hotel, but there are road works everywhere in ManhattenWe were on the 7th floor, at the back of the hotel, so we couldn't hear a thing anyway.
The room is quite small and the bath was a half sized bath. Markymoo, I'm not sure if this is the case for all rooms there? We were 2 adults, with one double bed. We didn't ask as this wasn't a problem for us, but I could see it might be a problem for other people.
The room was very clean and comfortable. The only down side was the lift, I'm a little nervous of them and being on the 7th floor meant I wasn't going to walk up that far after a full day of walking the streets, but it future I might consider asking for a lowere floor so I could use the stairs. Anyway there's only one lift and it holds 6 people, so you can end up waiting for it on occasion.
The location is excellent. It's a few blocks from ground zero (the Pope was there during our stay - not at the hotel...ground zero) You can walk to Battery Park. The subway is on your door step. There's a starbucks under the hotel and a McDs one block away which is where we ended up having brekkie every day for about $9 for the 2 of us. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I do love McDs breakfast.
We spent a while looking for somewhere that sold French Toast and Bacon (a favourite of mine), and finally found a diner near Madison Square Gardens (34th Street/Penn subway) that sold everything. It was called Tick Tock Diner and is open 24 hours.
OK, I'm starting to waffle a bit now
All in all, we'd go back to the cosmopolitan, although I may well brave using these bidding sites next time to try and get a bargain.0 -
Yes, that is correct, all the rooms have a bathroom with a 1/2 sized bath, and the the standard rooms for 2 people have a double bed in.. i'm sure they are advertised as 1 double bed, however, there are rooms available with 2 double beds in them, though the bathroom is exactly the same size!
now, as for your french toast, you should have walked across the road to the deli, Morgans, as their breakfasts are cheaper than McD's (c'mon! you've gone all the way to NYC, and you're going to McD's!!!) and also, i'm sure they do french toast... !!!
As i've said since my stay in September, there is construction outside, both sides of the hotel, One, being the subway, they are building elevators, for step free access, and improving the subway, and the other, is being the Posh hotel - Smyth - which is due to open this year.
I had a room facing the street, i prefer it, as i can see what is going on, i love watching the world go past, and the construction work really didn't bother me that much, yes i could hear it when they started at 7am, but it was like an alarm clock, doze til 8am, shower, get breakfast, etc etc...
Unfortunately the lift is small, and slow... very slow at times.... I always ended up walking down the stairs, and only using the lift up, when i needed to. I've only ever stayed on floors, 3 and 4, with my sister this time being on floor 2... (i think)
I'm glad you'd go back, I probably would never bid for a hotel, yes, i could get it cheaper, but I'd want to be in Tribeca, or further south, because midtown doesn't appeal to me when I want the nice village atmosphere, and also, most chain hotels don't offer free wifi, whereas the cosmo does, and I know good bars, just to nip in and grab a beer after a long day sightseeing, shopping, and.. umm.. drinking!0 -

Had you bothered to do a brief search yourself, and instead just shamelessly bumped your post after an hour(?!!), you would have found plenty of information.

Variable reviews. I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole, but each to their own!Gone ... or have I?0 -
I would bet that Trip Advisor has heard of it. Try reading through some of this thread too as it covers all you need to know about going to NYC without spending a fortune. This space has been intentionally left blank0

I suppose I'd better add my own experience now!
This time I stayed at the Millenium Broadway (a minute from Times Square). Never again. It was adequate, but nowhere near a 4*. It was clean, but the valance sheet was all frayed (well beyond a little darning!). The room was a decent size for NY, but it was so dark! I do cross stitch and I could not find anywhere in the room with adequate lighting available.
On my last stay I stayed at the W New York (around Lexington and 46th - don't quote me on that!). Now this is a true 4* hotel. The rooms are small, but it is a boutique hotel so expected, and they still seemed to get everything right! The room was light, and even though it was early January, perfectly snug and toasty ... and the bed was to die for (unlike the terrible, terrible bed at the MB)! My only complaint was about a luggage attendant, who v nearly made me miss my airport shuttle because of his refusal to retrieve my luggage (in his words) 'too early'.
Also, can't forget the fantastic Bliss spa at the W. Well worth a visit!
So where will I be staying next time? Unless Priceline can offer me an alternative goodie ... I'll be going back to the W.Gone ... or have I?0 -
