my suggestion probably would be to use priceline, and see what you can get through there.. do a quick forum search, and blindmans guide is invaluable

    Here.

It's a guide to using a site called priceline, which lets you name your own price for hotels etc. But you don't know WHICH hotel you'll get, just what standard it is, and roughly where. If your 'bid' is successful you find out then what you've got. Clever people can work out what they might be getting, and how low to go for a successful bid.

I'd suggest a good strong cup of coffee, and perhaps a wet towel round the head, before you start. Certainly not something to do for the first time when you're in a tearing hurry. I chickened out. :o

  • To round off a recent Fly-Drive in the deep south, got a no frills flight and spent a night in New York. During the planning phase I was amazed that the prices of hotels for one night were almost as much as I'd paid for a week in a luxury condo on the coast in Myrtle Beach.
I found the answer at La Quinta Inn, Queens Boulevard, Long Island City.
If you don't stay on Manhattan Island, the price drops exponentially. The hotel was fine, did a free continental breakfast, looked after your baggage all day after check out prior to a UK flight and was a 2 minute walk to the subway which itself was 10-15 mins to Times Square.
The cost? $150 for the room which sleeps two plus tax.
Book early though - apparently its very popular
  • Oh yes for further research, the Trip Advisor reviews can be found by searching for hotels in Long Island City rather than New York

    Can anyone help me out?

Looking for a trip to New York (first time!!) for me and my girlfriend, over Valentines Day (12th-17th Feb, 5 nights)

Is it possible to get anything nice for around £800 in total for these five nights? Any help would be much appreciated, I'm completely bewildered by the amount of hotels out there!
  • Hi

I am looking for a good quality 3.5* up hotel in New York for 6 nights 30/06/09 to 06/07/09. Would like it to be in the Times Square to Central Park area. Can anyone help please?

Best price I have so far is roughly £1150, can anyone beat that?

    Thanks

    Hi,
I want to go to New York next April to include the 15th as this is my other half's birthday.

I've found Roosevelt Hotel for £671.00 for 5 nights from 11-15 April on Expedia. 6% cashback from Quidco.

Virgin flights for same dates for 293 each but from London - we live in Manchester.

I'm really keen to stay in Roosevelt as this is where we stayed when we got wed.

My other half works for Virgin but on a temp contract - does anyone know if we could get any discount?

Its a suprise so can't ask them!

What I want to know before I book is am I missing a bargain anywhere? Should I be searching other cashback sites?

    Thanks

You could fax the hotel and let them know, but the chances of getting an upgrade on NYE are very low, especially at a hotel which I imagine is near capacity (if not full).
    Gone ... or have I?
