eeek.. sorry ash... i've been busy, what with my computer dying on me, and then my web servers going down, i ain't had time...
here is a short version, things bunched together by location really..
you have a lot to cram in.. don't try do too much, as you'll rush and won't enjoy it...
financial district
staten island ferry
ground zero museum workshop
china town
go on the gray line red tour bus
times square
central park
rockefeller plaza(night time)
grand central station
chrysler building - can't really "do" chrysler, apart from look at it...
empire state building(daytime)
madison square garden tour
american museum of natural history - could easily spend half a day here...
the broadway comedy club - any evening really - don't need to put that on an itin...
Walk over - brooklyn bridge then go
shopping in fulton street,brooklyn
hope that helps..

to be honest there's only 2 ways to do it without a lot of pain/expense.....fly or drive (a hire car will be expensive from jfk ) ....if the above price is the total for 3 of you return i wouldn't even think twice about booking them.
it's 270 miles to drive and will take possibly 5 hours ...you then have to factor in getting into NYC to catch a bus .....the flight will be less than an hour.
the train is not cheap and you then have to pay for a hotel for the night.
fly fly fly especially if you have no intention of hiring a car ...also if you are going to hire a car you could look at the price of a one way flight and a one way car rental back to jfk from syracuse0 -

plenty of bars! there are loads of bars in NYC... ok, you're across in Long Island, but public transport is still good... you could walk round Times Square one evening, after doing Rockerfella (and i'd go at sunset to the top of the rock, that would look awesome!)

im now actually thinking to just book the tickets for the flight at 10.55pm but im slightly worried cos we may miss the flight due to delay or something, I have found a cheaper flight for all 3 of us in total $260, which is better but that is departing at 10.05pm, so say our plane lands at 9pm, no way could we get that plane at 10.05pm, (i think) other than that Im willing to pay for our flights, these are all one way, coming back is not a problem we will have someone drop us off to JFK, and via bus/coach the journey is about 5 hours.0

hmm.. an hour at some airports for a connection is doable... but, the make it a true connection, it would have to be with the airline that your main flight to JFK is with.. if it isn't... then you are doing a point to point... so... you'll have to actually collect bags and go back to check in, rather than just connecting..
