Just looking for some advice.
I have just got hold of a nationwide visa debit card - is this defo the one where you withdraw cash in the states without getting charged ? if so, what machines? can i also use this in shops free of charge ?
Also, has anyone got a decent itinery they could post ? im going for a week, and trying to plan my trip now. not too sure what to do out there!0 -
Hi ash213
The nationwide card is free to withdraw at many cash machines, HOWEVER, the ones that are in McDonalds, deli's, and stores normally charge a 99¢ fee, so that isn't going to break the bank!
Look out for HSBC, Bank of America, or CitiBank, and in many places these are free.
The card also doesn't cost you anything to use when buying goods or paying for food etc...
As for an itinerary, well, what do you want to do? any particular sights you want to see. If you give me a list of that, and also, what you might want to do in the evenings, I could easily plan your holiday for you, bunch things that are close together, so you're not trekking from the Empire State to the Staten Island Ferry with only a 30 minute limit to do things, etc etc... that would help immensely, and i'll sort something out.. oooh, and tell me what hotel you're staying at too!
Cheers

Hi all
I have tickets booked for late June to JFK New york, but our relatives are in Syracuse so we need to get there, our flight will land at JFK 8.30pm, could somebody help me find the cheapest way to get to syracuse via either train/coach. Any idea how much a cab would cost to syracuse from JFK, I've looked amtrak but the latest train departing is at 6.30pm so no use. Thanks.0 -
I have friends in Syracuse and have done this route several times, if you are flying to JFK there is a Jet blue flight out of JFK at 22.55 gets in 12.15 syracuse which gives you 2 & 1/2 hours to get through immigration customs and get to terminal 6 and check in.
If you get stressed and panic, get a airport hotel get a good nights sleep and get an early flight to Syracuse.
I have done both and sometimes better to do the latter and know for sure you dont have to rush and be rushed ...plus you get that fresh start the next day"Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."

Just to make it clear: this is a significant distance, and would take perhaps eight hours to drive. Not a journey to do by cab! A flight would be a good idea.0

Hi Just checked and the price is coming up as $358.50 for 3 people, do you think this would be the cheapest? Any coaches from JFK?0 -

Been back from NYC for a couple of days now- it was a superb holiday and a awesome city.
Flew with direct with Delta, very impressed with their service and staff. Both planes we flew on were 757-200s, both had individual entertainment screens for everyone and these were brilliant. The plane coming back was very new, we had masses of leg room and the seats were wider, all in all would definitely recommend flying with Delta.
We had a itinerary for each of the days we were in NYC, though we didn't really follow it to be honest! Sort of followed it for the first couple of days, but in the end just did what we wanted when we wanted to- got to do most things we wanted though quite a few things we didn't get to do lol.
Empire State Building queues were terrible!, took a good 2-3 hours from to do and although the views were pretty damn good have to say the Rockefeller Center's 'Top of the Rock' was much less stressful and crowded plus provided just as great views. So would recommend the Rockefeller Center for that.
Saw 'Grease' and 'Cry Baby' on Broadway, both excellent especially 'Cry Baby' which was extremely funny and well-acted. Got our tickets from the South Street Seaport TKTS terminal which as markymoo promised was more or less free of queues (5-10mins wait), paying only $40 for Grease and $60 for Cry Baby.
Had superb sunny, hot weather 21-24degrees throughout!
Madison Square Garden tour was very good and the tour guide was great to listen to (and look at for that matter), really incredible arena would have loved to see the rangers or knicks play their.
Shopping was out of this world! Incredibly cheap prices, made even better by getting almost a £1:$2 exchange rate with the Nationwide flex account card. Would recommend 'Century 21', 'Loehmanns' (?), Abercrombie and Fitch and of course 'Macy's'.
Found New Yorkers helpful on the whole, 2 or 3 came up to us in the Subway when we were looking a little confused and helped us out! Our hotel staff (Lucerne Hotel,Upper West Side) were also great. Though we found most shop assistants to be miserable and less than helpful, though not all were like this.
The 2hr harbour lights Circle Line sightseeing cruise was great as was the Grey Line bus tours. Tribeca, SoHo and Chelsea were great places with a great vibe, and good shops. Saw a few street festivals whilst we were there that looked fun.
Had some great food, and found a super little Irish Bar to watch the England vs USA game, and it felt great to walk around in my England shirt after the game! (even though most Americans probably were unaware the game had even took place!).
Feels a very safe city, with NYPD and security officials everywhere.
So all in all can't wait to go back!!
PS. We have 2 Adult Statue of Liberty tickets and 1 Junior Statue of Liberty ticket unused, as we never actually went to it or Ellis Island just cruised round them both on the Circle Line tour and Staten Island ferry. So if anyone would like them at a vastly reduced price PM me or for free if you could do me a favour in New York if your going soon.CARLISLE UNITED FC SUPPORTER
