ok.... all hotels in manhattan are great for shopping and sightseeing, you have the subway close by to most, and you can be at anywhere you want to be in manhattan in around 20 - 30 minutes... less if you plan things in a logical order when going around..

so, anywhere would suit your needs really, I recommend the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Tribeca. It is in a great location with a subway line right outside, you can hop on the subway, and be at times square in 12 minutes, and it's a nice villagey vibe down there, with a good selection of local bars, and restaurants, which serve great food!

if it is your first time, you'll probably be drawn towards the flashing lights of times square, aka theater-land, but as you said no theaters, well thats all there is around you, and restaurants that are aimed squarely at tourists... (i'm not a fan of times square, you can do better)

    anything else?
    :)

oh.. btw.. .NYC is peak season from January 1st thru December 31st ;)

    steveo3002...

all airports are the same to be honest...

JFK is the furthest away, but the biggest, or EWR, which is actually in New Jersey, while LGA is the closest, but is the smallest, and only deals in domestic flights..

Would you be able to get a shuttle bus to the hotel... mm.. yeah.. there is a supershuttle service that runs, but there is nothing super about it...

if you're flying into JFK, it is a flat rate of $45 to any hotel in manhattan... its not as if that is expensive... most shuttles charge around $9 per person afaik... i've never got a shuttle, but i've heard bad things about them...
by the time you've had your flight and everything, i just want the most convenient way to get to my hotel... so i jump into a taxi..

ok... the cosmopolitan is a great hotel.... Click on the first page of this long thread, and there are 2 links to guides i've written to help you... first one is getting in and around manhattan, and the other is booking your trip... read them and see what info you can get out of them....

what kinda money for a good hotel.... the sky is the limit really.. it is NYC after all...

Hi, We are going to New york on the 21st April and have booked good hotels at some great prices. We are going for 4 nights and have booked two hotels.

Our first night I booked The Westin in Times square for $199 and then booked the Millenium UN Plaza for EUR 142.74 about £113 plus tax. I booked the Millenium at the following link.

    http://catalogue.horse21.co.uk/usa+hotels/new+york+hotels/millennium+un+plaza+hotel

Not sre if anyone has stopped at the hotels or if Markymoo has any info on them, but they look really nice hotels.

I have tonight gone through a lot of the pages on this forum and taken some great tips. Thanks to all who have posted.

The tickets that you can purchase to get discount to most of the attractions, do you have to print it off once you have made the payment or does somthing get posted to you?

    Thanks

I bought New York Passes for free entry into a lot of the attractions. Have worked out that by going to the places we definately want to see we break even with anything else we manage to fit in being a bonus. Main advantage looks like being able to queue jump. Opted to collect them there rather than post due to timescales (and being moneysaving to save the postage cost)

You can buy a book of coupons at entertainment.com that gives you half price meals etc if you feel they're worth buying

    Can anyone help me.

I have booked a hotel at the Quality Inn [SIZE=-1], 30-03 40th Avenue , Long Island City, NY 11101, United States

Dates 2nd June - 9th June so 7 nights in total.

This is costing £635 at the current conversion rate.

We are just wondering if i could find anything cheaper than that ? Any where in NY with good transport links. I booked the Quality Inn originally becuase its near a station and has good reviews.

    did that include tax?

Cosmopolitan Hotel in TriBeCa in Manhattan you can get for £821.57 inc taxes, and save yourself, about an hour a day travelling into Manhattan and back, etc etc...

depends where you want to stay... if you prefer to stay out of Manhattan, I really can't help, as I have never stayed out of the city, and wouldn't know where to start looking! sorry!
