You're entitled to bring back £145 of goods per person, please note this does not mean that if you are with your wife etc and you purchase a camera etc and its over £145 that you can use their allowance.

Also if you spend over £145 then the vat and duty on the goods is calculated on everything you have purchased not the difference on the £145.

Also please note that JFK duty free are currently doing a buy 400 cigs and get 200 free, I stopped someone this morning with 600 cigs in a carrier bag, between two people and they explained the situ and was assured in JFK they could purchase what they wanted but didnt mention paying the duty on the goods.

    All the best

isn't there some items that don't have duty applied... laptops digital cameras etc, or has that rule gone out of the window, or did i dream reading about it!

  • I know my laptop was exempt, and digital cameras are as well. The HMRC website should have a list of the rates and items on it under the Travel info section.

this is common in the duty free in jfk ....some imbecile trying to tell you you're wrong when you tell them that you can't take back X amount to the UK.

nope, but limo's are expensive, at around $100, i've used them a couple of times, for a family, they're great.. but for $45 you can get a taxi, and they still hold 4 people and 4 suitcases if you get a minivan

if you want to prebook something, you could do a car service like carmel or telaviv!

Hi, we're planning on going to New york in july (26/27th) and i've found flights for £235.25 (both ways) per person through flyzoom... I thought it was a good deal until i read reviews about the website, now i'm not too sure. We're planning on going for 10 days and i don't really want to pay too much for a hotel (I doubt we'll spend much time there). I wanted some advice, i read the whole thread, should i wait until three months to see if i can find a better deal for flights?

    Thanks in advance!
