If you want to see Broadway shows then try TKTS both, or just go to the box office of the thetare. We left it too late to book on line, thank goodness, as what was on offer and the price was rubbish compared to what we paid at the box office. We got tickets for hairspray from TKTS and Wicked tickets and Jersey boys from the box office. All seats were amazing, Hairspray was so cheap for the tickets and even full price for the others it was worth it. My 2 bits of advice if you are going for 5days or more definitely get the 7 day Metro Card, worth every cent, you will see how the $ go down if you only buy $7.50 or $10.00 cards. Also if you want to see museums and the Empire state then the New York pass is best value for money too. I made the big mistake of not buying either, mujxg to my regret and my pocket. The Cosmo was a great hotel with lots of great breakfast places below, which are nice and handy, great location for subway and being near to the Woolworth Building and Muinicipal Offices meant you had a good idea where to go to when you were walking back.To get back to the airport use a yellow cab at flat rate but we used Carmel to get back as there was a $5 reduction ( offer in booklet)and the hotel wanted $58 for their car service.

Great thread, haven't read it all yet, but am making notes of a lot of tips on here.

Me and OH want to go to NY in June for 3 days. I went there in 2001 and OH has never been, so can't wait to take him to my fave place.

I have £1000 Virgin Vouchers so that is what we have. Virgin flights and Virgin Hotels. Any recommendations as to hotels in a good location for that budget, we may be able to scrape a bit more together as would like to stay in a fairly decent central hotel, if poss.

I see in this thread that its best to avoid staying near Times Square as too touristy?

Also, want to see a Broadway show, shall I book it online now or wait til I get there?

Last time I went, me and sis stayed in here

Was a good location though it was Feb and flipping freezing which is why I want to go back in June. :D

Oooh, we quite fancy staying in Greenwich Village, I loved it there. The only hotel Virgin do is the Washington Square Hotel, it looks nice. Do you recommend staying there?

Many thanks, sorry for rambling, just getting excited, we would like to book it in a few days.

Sorry to shamelessly bump, but if anyone knows if Greenwich Village is a good base to stay in, would be really grateful. Last time I went, I stayed near Times Square and just fancied somewhere a bit less touristy. We would like to book it this week. :o

Oooh, just a quickie. Not sure whether to go around 5 May (so can use a Bank Holiday), or wait til June. Any difference do you think? Any times to avoid over there?

Monday , May 26th is Memorial Day so that may be a date to avoid :undecided

Don't know what it would be like in NY , but we were in Orlando on Memorial Day once and it was very busy , traffic was awful. Maybe not a problem in NY

    Booked it! :j:j

We are going on 30 May for 3 days. Weather will be nice but not too hot, kids will still be in school there.....I have been reading this thread. :D

Staying at the Washington Square Hotel in Greenwich Village. Haven't been to NY for 7 years so can't wait and OH has never been and he is a tad excited to say the least. :D Made sure we got a 09.30am flight so as not to waste the day when we get there. Many thanks to all the contributions on this thread, I have bookmarked a lot of the links on here, to make our stay there even more enjoyable. :)

im flying into jfk on thursday on delta 155 from manchester. The landing time should be 2.35pm. Im hoping to get through immigration and collect my baggage, get to terminal 4 arrivals (is this where i land????) before 3.30pm. I know this is cutting it fine but theres a transbridge line bus leaves then and it would save me aload of hassel not having to get a seperate transfer to pabt so i can get a different transbridge bus which will take me to doylestown pa. I flew into jfk with delta last august but then got a connecting flight to philadelphia (big mistake). I cant remember how long it took me to do the immigration thing, wasnt to bothered at the time because i had a 4 hour stop over. The last 2 times ive flown into philly and i was through immigration with bags within 40mins, is jfk as quick?
    cheers
    mike
