Any suggestions on best place to buy an IPOD? Would this be the same store as i would get the digital camera? Is it still cheaper to get this in the US?0
-
for camera's my vote is for J&R, which is on park row.... i got a good deal on a camera, and it included a case, which at B&H, they only did the camera at the same price without the case..
as for ipods, they'll be the same price everywhere, but the experience of an apple store is awesome, so i'd go there to get one.. and yeah, it'll be slightly cheaper!0 -
atomised.. you should be able to check the major culprits (expedia, airline network, opodo etc) for flights up to 330 days in advance...
let me know the dates and airports, and i'll see what prices i can find for you0 -
why does it have to be JFK? it is actually the furthest away airport from Manhattan!
i've done a quick search, and £333 is the best price right now if you must fly into JFK. Direct with Delta
i can save £6 a person, making it £327, if you fly into Newark. Direct flight with Continental.
as for flying from London - £318, Stanstead to JFK, then JFK to Heathrow (ugh!)
£321 with Virgin, from Heathrow to JFK
thats the best i can find right now, but as i've said before, prices may go down nearer to the time!!!!0 -
in one of my other posts, i state the distance from different airports to manhattan.. i can't remember what i said, but i'll re do it just for convenience..
LaGuardia - Manhattan = 11.7 miles
JFK - Manhattan = 20.4 miles
Newark Liberty - Manhattan = 13.1 miles
most airlines won't fly direct to LaGuardia, the only time you'll fly there is if you connect at a different US City
oh, and a litre of petrol, a pint of milk, a loaf of bread, a can of beer etc etc, are all more expensive than they were 6 years ago..
bear in mind 6 years ago, NYC was still suffering from lack of tourists, after 9/11, so air fares were lower!!!
IMO, if you can get a flight under £300, nearer to £250, that is a good price..

go with the best price... i've had great prices having to change at Philadelphia, yeah it adds on a couple of hours on the journey, but for the money, i've never argued... limiting yourself to one airport, in a city that has 3, will limit the best price you're going to get..
also, you're looking for flights in november, a pricier time of year, as the airlines KNOW brits go christmas shopping there, and know they will be able to fill up the planes easier, however, i'd still recommend waiting at least 4 months before you seriously think about booking, sometimes the best prices are as little as 6 weeks away from departure!0 -
Hi Guys,
I am looking for a bit of advice. I am guessing the best way to call the UK from NY will be by international phone card??, rather than the £1.89 per min mobile company wants to charge me..
Could anyone let me know where to purchase one in NY ?
Cheers

Honey pie: When i rang back to the UK last year i used a pay phone, you need plenty of quarters but maybe i was on a dodgy phone but i only put in about 2 quarters and was on for ages and wasn't asked for more money. Don't know how common these phones are, this was just outside our hotel.
Markymoo: Sorry to be a pain, wherer is Park Row and is this the only J&R store? We too are staying at the Cosmo on your recommendations, is it near to the hotel? Is this a better store than Comp USA?Also are there lots of apple stores? thanks0 -
Christa1,
Park Row is near City Hall. I don't know of any other J&R in NY. Directions from Cosmo to J&R are here: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=15980911257895139607,40.711418,-74.007966&saddr=125+chambers&daddr=15+Park+Row,+New+York,+NY+10038,+United+States&sll=40.712996,-74.007962&sspn=0.007189,0.014291&ie=UTF8&ll=40.713354,-74.007554&spn=0.007189,0.014291&z=16
There are 3 apple stores in Manhattan. 767 Fifth Ave (the flagship 'glass cube'), 103 Prince Street (middle of Soho) and another on 401 W 14th St (corner of hudson st)."Who throws a shoe, honestly?"

Hello
Thank you for all the useful tips and pieces of information contained within this thread.
I have a question, is the Hotel Cosmopolitan, which comes recommended, suitable for a single female? I have never been to NY before and want to go this year. I have been looking for a suitable hotel, which is reasonable in price, but in a safe location to travel around the sights.
advice gratefully accepted.
thanks
