the week ticket for the subway is now $25.. the fares rose on the 3rd March 2008...0

ok, here is a kinda plan. Thursday, you'll be tired, so probably won't want to do much... so go have a nice meal somewhere, and then just wander around get your bearings and everything like that.
Friday - Woodbury Common
It really is a full day trip, a day in NYC wasted by going to an outlet mall.. (i went, i thought it was a waste, so did my shopaholic sister!)
markymoo you probably know that in the past i have defended going to Woodbury Common shopping (with the caveat that it really does depend on the time of year about how good the bargains are).
however there's no way i'd advise someone going to NYC for 4 days to spend one of them at Woodbury Common......it would be even worse if this was the only time someone was going to visit the city.
i love shopping , i like Woodbury , i've always had a car when i've visited ( and quite often i've popped in while passing) and i can get round in 2-3 hours tops.
if the sales are on in the department stores like macy's etc you get end of season clothing at lower prices than old stock in the outlet villages/malls. (not written in stone but my personal experience)
on some holiday visits we've been passing Woodbury and not even bothered.0 -
well we are off in 3 weeks time and definitley heading to Woodbury, but if I was there for such a short time I probably wouldn't bother. We were there for 10 days last year and got fantastic things in Nautica, Gant, Ralph Lauren( home and fashion) and other bits, but still never got into loads of shops. The big designner shops like Pucci etc were still expensive. We are going for 8 days this time and will still go, my daughter wants a prom dress so any suggestions apart from spending the whole day going through the racks in Century 21!!0

well, maybe it was the 1 hour travelling, the 3 hours shopping and the 1 hour travelling that makes it into a 5 hour trip, that fills up your day.
when planning on days in NYC, i only plan for things between 10am - 2pm, this gives you time to rest, relax, and do other things that you didn't plan for...
this is my defence why woodbury would take a whole "day" as such
i know i should have put that in my original post.. but after 3 hours shopping, and the fast pace of NYC, i really don't think you could do anything much else in that day...

markymoo i'm saying i can get round in 2-3 hours ....i would expect someone visiting for the first time to spend far longer.
i'm totally agreeing with you0 -

Thursday - Bubba Gumps
Skip Bubba Gump, you can get hell of a lot better food for half the price elsewhere... its tacky and touristy.. oh, but you are a tourist.!!! hehe.. check menupages.com for other suggestions
Agree with you there! You can get better prawns in aldi. They taste like rubber! Was actually a major disappointment.

Hi, I have booked a flight and hotel to NY for June for a week. Do I have to have a visa? If so what does that involve?:smileyheaRachel xx0

Wow this whole topic is fabulous. What a great job
My friend, her mother and Aunt have a girls trip booked for October (6 days) and reading through everything I'm excited already. We will probably be working loosely to an itinerary, similar to bigspender2, reason being I went to London a few years ago for Hogmanay and January sales but regret not doing enough when there.
I've read through the thread a number of times and there is mention of buying theatre tickets at Times Sq etc. If still running in October I would like to see Phantom or Mamma Mia. Is it possible to get tickets for big shows last minute or not worth the risk of missing out on what you want?
My friend would also like to visit Harlem (Mother and Aunt won't be). She claims she once stayed at the hostel or YMCA. It's perhaps a common misconception that the area is ghetto-ish, local 'mom and pop' stores etc. I think it could be fun, and an experience but wouldn't fancy it if there wasn't great reason for going, it either wasn't safe or there was difficulties in getting taxi's back.
Last one for now, is it possible to go out partying/clubbing in Manhattan? Being Scottish we drink like the American's eat and apart from Florida have never gone on holiday without visiting a bar. We will be staying at one of Sheraton's on 7th if that helps.
Thank you xMFiT-T6: #38
