    Hi All!
Thank you for all the advice especially Markymoo:beer:
I've booked hotel in NYC for early October and we have our eye on a specific flight out of Gatwick which suits where we live and childcare arrangements....question is will we get better than £380 each on Continental if we wait or should we just book now?

Sallysaver, thanks for that. we will be lightweight, just coming from a week's cruise from Fort Lauderdale - so do you think the E would be the best bet for the Millenium Broadway, having taken the airtrain from JFK. Can I ask is it well signposted , the Aitrain that is, in the terminal and is it miles to get there?

How did people get back from NY to the airport?

I'm taking a taxi in as there's a fixed price and I think the first glimpse of NY should be in a cab (if we skip the toll;)), but not sure about getting back to the airport...

I have never felt so travel sick in my life whilst in a NY taxi, lots of lurching! I couldnt' face a journey back to the airport in one. We paid out $24 for a 7 day subway/bus pass so used the subway to get to Howard Beach and caught the Skytrain which was an extra $5. As we had already paid for the subway pass it worked out cheaper than getting a taxi back to the airport and only took an hour from Upper West Side.
Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time

what? you want US to plan everything into a logical order... ok.. i'll have a stab at that.... later though... i'm still jet lagged as i've only just got back from NYC today..

not much time to do that much... woodbury common takes up a whole day, or half at a minimum...

i'll see what i can come up with

ok, here is a kinda plan. Thursday, you'll be tired, so probably won't want to do much... so go have a nice meal somewhere, and then just wander around get your bearings and everything like that.

    Thursday - Bubba Gumps
Skip Bubba Gump, you can get hell of a lot better food for half the price elsewhere... its tacky and touristy.. oh, but you are a tourist.!!! hehe.. check menupages.com for other suggestions

    Friday - Woodbury Common
It really is a full day trip, a day in NYC wasted by going to an outlet mall.. (i went, i thought it was a waste, so did my shopaholic sister!)

    Saturday - Shopping & Sightseeing

I've rearranged these into a logical order, starting at the northmost part of Manhattan, working your way down, I'll do this for Sat / Sunday, so anything you can do on Saturday, can go first on Sundays itin, and so forth.. its a logical way of doing things...

    Central Park
    FAO Schwartz
    Tiffany's
Bloomingdale's - HINT: Drop Shopping off at hotel before going sightseeing!
    TOTR
    Madame Tussauds

-EVENING - See Grease on Broadway

    Sunday
    Empire State Building
    Macy's
    China Town
    Little Italy
    Greenwich Village

    Monday
NY Helicopter Ride (or Staten Island Ferry, which is free!)
    Statue of Liberty

    Hi,
The signage in JFK is first class and you will find your way about easily.Take the Airtrain to Sutphin Blvd $5. Then take the E train to 5th Avenue/53rd St. There are various ways to pay for this (you will see all the alternatives at the pay machine) but we bought the $24 7 day ticket and it was worth every penny, sorry dollar! I don't know exactly where your Hotel is but you can email me as I still have my subway map and can double check. To be honest, I was apprehensive with the Metro system at first, at times its worse than the London underground by far, but although ancient, its an amazing system. How are you getting from Fort Lauderdale to JFK. I'm interested as we are doing similar to you but at Christmas 2008. Sally
