Not sure where to post this, but how do you rate the Airtrain from JFK, need to get to Times Square on a Sunday afternoon - is it fairly simple and reliable?

Yes, it is. but the train is less frequent, try MTA

    Hi,
We found it absolutely brilliant, although we were going TO JFK, so the opposite way to you and it was a Sunday morning. We were able to use our Metro 7 day pass on the subway and gave it away as there was still 3 days left on it, (you cannot use it on the airtrain) paid our fare (I think $5) and off we went. So actually cost us very little to get to JFK. Money saving and all that!!!! Sally

Will have two suitcases, not overly heavy - is it a pain with cases on the subway - lots of stairs?

We had 2 suite cases, we walked from P.O.T to Millenium broadway Hotel at 44th street, took about 15 minutes . its has stairs but its not that bad at all.

    Hi,
If I am being honest, there are lots of stairs and very, very few escalators in the New York subway. So, it depends how fit you are (reasonably fit to tramp the streets of New York!). We had 2 suitcases, 2 hand luggage and my 'massive' handbag and managed, helped by the fact the subway was deserted at 11.00 a.m. (Sunday 17/12/07) I don't know how long you are going for, but my advice is to TRAVEL LIGHT when going to New York and reap the rewards in the shopping! I loved every second of it and am going back this Christmas. Sally

This is a bit long term, but we have to plan ahead, finances dictate.....next Feb 2009 we hope to visit friends in Tampa and then fly home via New York. We plan to stay 5 nights in NY. Will be going with Continental into Newark NJ, they fly from our local airport....Brum.....lots of questions, best way to get into midtown from the airport? decent hotel, not too expensive, we are pensioners on a limited income. How cold is it likely to be in February? bearing in mind that we are going to be in Florida for a week before we land in NY what clothes would be appropriate???? will we need thermals? reccys for places to eat etc much appreciated...travel around the city, is the subway the best way? When would you recommend booking...are the flights likely to be cheaper closer to the date we want to fly??? the same with an hotel?

    Enough for now..............
    Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.
