one thing to remember though when staying in Jersey, is that you can't just nip back to the hotel to drop your shopping bags off, get showered, and go out to do sightseeing.. this can make it for a very long day..

factor in 2 trips back and forth a day, 8 days, twice (2 people), you're spending $50 just on travelling in and out, and it isn't as convenient as staying in manhattan

i've found the astor on the park hotel at $1549.72 an 8 night stay in september (not exact dates, as you haven't given us them, so its a guess)

i typed this at 4pm, and forgot to click submit, so apologies of anyone else has replied...

Thanks Markymoo, that's a very good point!

I'm trying to sell the idea of staying "in town" to the boyfriend. The dates in question are 19th - 27th Sept ... just in case you happened to stumble over any deals

Have you looked at the Radio City Apts - cheap, central and good reviews on trip advisor....

  • Hi guys, silly question because i'm sure everyone wants one of these, but...
Are there any websites which email you when, for example a flight to NYC at any time, falls below say £200???
If there aren't any then why doesn't someone smart design one and charge a fee everytime a flight is booked as a result?

danny.... i think that travelocity will send you emails when a fare drops below a certain price, however, the annoyance with it, that it emails you when the BASE fare drops below that price, and didn't include taxes.. this is a couple of years ago, so it might have changed... taxes can vary a lot from flight to flight even at the same airport!

  • Thanks Mark,

The reason i'm asking is because i was jealous of the £150 delta you got!! Do you just trawl thier site every so often then?

It's a good idea, for somebody to incorporate that into the flightchecker, i think.

i was lucky with the delta deal. i swear by my three month rule, but normally start looking for flights around 4 months in advance. this way, if i see a bargain, i book it..... i get into checking religiously every day or every other day, and then i don't seem to miss them...

i've been to the states (including my trip next month) 12 times in total, and apart from vegas, have never paid more than £280 for a flight, as for NYC flights, i've never paid more than £250, so that is really my target!!

Mark sorry to ask this on the new york thread but would you say this system would apply to flights to Florida as well, as at the moment flights are showing as £400 +
    Thanks for your help

never been, so really can't tell...

i really do think airlines put their bucket fares (the cheapest ones) on at around that point... however, as florida is more of a touristy holiday destination, whereas NYC is a city break destination/business one, its a difficult play to call....

    sorry!
