Sorry Marky i am a New York newbie not the expert you are :)

Its flying from Gatwick to JFK using BA on the World Traveller Class.

I assume its direct cannot see that it says to change. The flight cost you quote is correct.

EDIT: Sorry i have actually changed to dates to go from 27/04 - 04/05! It was £60 more expensive for the original dates.

    9 nights? is that right?

hmm.. ok... can't really find anything cheaper than that BA flight for them exact days, but American Airlines, do have fares from around £240 ish, direct from heathrow, 28th Apr - 4th May (land on 5th).. flying on a sunday generally bumps up flight costs, so, it sounds stupid, but cutting your trip down to 5 - 7 nights might be more cost effective..

5 - 6 nights in new york is normally plenty, by the time you get back home after that you are more tired than when you went out.. honestly.. 9 night in NYC, that is a long holiday for what is a city break!

Should be 7 nights but i was thinking about going for 5 to save some cash on hotels.

I live on a trainline to Gatwick so easier for me to get to there.

Thanks Mark for your help :)

5 nights is a good starting point IMO for a trip to NYC... i do either 5 or 6 nights depending on money, (and this year it is 5 night i'm doing!)

the only problem with Gatwick now, is that some airlines have moved away, and gone to Heathrow, since the OpenSkies agreement came into effect last year, so it really does limit choice. Kinda like myself, with limited choice from Manchester, but this is what i've found that might be useful..

If we do Wed - Mon, which gives you 5 nights, the best price available currently for a flight to NYC is the flights with BA. However, the BA sale is currently on, so this HAS to be booked by the 20 something of this month, and is now the only direct flight from LGW.

same dates from heathrow are £240 with American Airlines, so, unless you can get to heathrow for less than £36 more than it would cost you to get to gatwick, stick with the BA flights and book them.

I have just booked it flying Wednesday 29th coming back Monday 4th May for the £517.40 :)

Is it likely they might move me to Heathrow for any reason if its the only direct flight? Its not a major issue but just easier to go from Gatwick and cheaper too as just hop on a train for about £15 each :)

  • Hope someone can help! I'm looking at booking 5 nights in October time and just getting an idea on prices etc but is there really that much difference between say economy and premium economy seats? Not so much of a problem for me but the other half is 6'2"!
    Thanks :)

i'm 6 '4, your other half will have no problems!

standard 32" economy pitch is doable for a 7 hour flight for me... i just try nab exit/bulkhead seats... on the way out, i've normally got them no problems, on the way back (esp with US Airways)

be wise when it comes to booking flights, some airlines offer 31" pitch, some others offer up to 34" pitch... 34" is good, 32" is doable.. 31" is a squeeze (was stuck in a 31" pitch, on the way to vegas.. hard work esp when the person in front reclined their chair!!!)

  • hi all, very excited just booked flights to NY for the 13th Feb for a week, got them for £278 ech with Virgin, LHR to Newark with Net flights, best price i could find and havent really budged in weeks.

Now looking for accomodation. Done lots of research and review reading on TA and come up with these 4.

1.Novotel Times Square 91st on TA
2.Residence Inn by Marriott 10th on TA
    3.Sofitel 5th TA
    4.Affinia Dumont 6th TA

We want somewhere as close as possible to times square in it infact! the first 2 are in TS but not sure about 3 and 4.

Am i right in thinking TS is from blocks 40th to 55th streets.
If so the Sofitel is on 45th street and the Dumont 35th.

The Novotel looks the best bet and cheapest, Kayak currently offering £930 for the week but not sure about reviews?

Anyone stayed at the Novotel? or can recommend/critise any of the 4 hotels ive shortlisted

Also been reading it's cheaper to book some things in the UK prior to travel, can anyone recommend which websites to use ie sex ans the city tour etc

    Many thanks xxxx
