you would be lucky to say times square is between 40th and 45th and between 8th and ave of the americas. About the same size as Wembley inc carparks (times square in my opinion isnt a place and has no definate boundaries) but what i think of times square you can walk around its area in half a hour and is so easy to get to from any of the hotels mentioned or indeed anywhere in manhattan. can understand you wating to be in or close to times square it is a great central base and easy to get else where from it. GRAND CENTRAL/ CRYSLER 5 MINS-- ESB/MACYS/ MSG 15 MINS-- CENTRAL PARK YOU CAN WALK TO IN LESS THAN 25 MINUTES EASY. but remember if you pitch your tent in or around west side central you are less than half hour walk back to times square. Thus getting better rates on your hotel and i my opinion better restraunts&class of shopping on your doorstep.Every one is different as to what you want but the trip advisor (TA) numbers are given by the people that stay there the lower the better so you know what your looking for.
Even my opinion of the hotels mean nowt to you as we want different things
ie double /twin beds- en suite stuff -hotel bar-mini bar-mint on pillow fresh flowers who knows. What you have proved is you have done your homework and reserched your stay so you have a clue what to expect have a great stay
 hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world

    i'll ask the question..

why do you want to be near to times square. there is NOTHING there, apart from loads of light bulbs doing advertising, and that's it!

your flights are average priced, anything under £250 is a bargain (but i always say that, as i've been so often and never paid more than that!) and £930 for a week.. whoooo... that's not money saving.. that's daylight robbery, aah, but it is commercialisation day as you get there.. sorry.. i mean valentines day..... or was i right first time?

My b/f wants to stay in Times Square, i think he thinks its the central part! But you pay for location!

I can't find any hotels under 1100 (apart from the novotel) for that week, i'd like to think i'm pretty internet savvy and have searched around but i too was surprised it cost so much to stay there!
I've used engines such as moneysupermarket, kayak, travelzoo, lastminute etc and all around £1000 for the week.

You sound pretty NY travelled, any tips where to look, where to stay to reduce the cost? It would be very much appreciated xx

I have to agree markymoo. I found times square to be a bit of a let down not what i expected at all.
New York ♥..........These street will make you feel brand new, Big lights will inspire you.
No place in the world that can compare ♥ 2nd October 2010 ♥
  • I've since booked the Iroquois, liked the look of it but was a little too expensive! Has since come down on hotels.com to £132 a night and with 10% quidco (has already validated! :T) makes it £977 for the week. It's 19th best on TA and a good 4* in 44th street so i'm happy :j

All booked now, flights and accomodation for £770 each for a week. I'm sure this is not as good as i could have got and will learn on my 2nd time to NY as i'm sure there will definatley be one!

Yipeeeee 6 weeks to go!! :j

We (2 adults, 1 toddler of 18 months) booked our trip to NY with Virgin (we earn triple miles with our Amex Virgin card) for 13/15 until 18/15

I have provisionally booked the Hampton Inn in Soho for 5 nights for $179 plus tax per night, breakfast and highspeed broadband is included (I need broadband for work)

Are there any better offers out there?

    Excellent.. blame the b/f!!! :)

well, new york city is made up of 5 different areas, and Manhattan, the island, is the central part.

Times Square is the tourist part which is reasonably central when it comes to the island of Manhattan.
However, there is only flashing lights and expensive poor quality restaurants and bars there. To get a decent meal at a reasonably price, head to TriBeCa, and for good bars / nightlife, head to the East Village / Lower East Side.

There is 99% of New York to see outside of Times Square.. It has it's moments, and can make good photos, but it really isn't all that, and definately not the centre of NYC

glad you got something booked, and are happy with the price, personally, the amount of time you spend in the hotel, you really don't need anything that posh!

and 10% quidco? damn! it was only 8% when i booked my hotel last week! (and yes, tracked same day, validated a day or so later!! wow!)
