I was really excited about going to this place but maybe when I went there were no bargains, it was like TKMax but without the good items, also, when we came out we unwittedly walked over to ground zero (which I have pointed not wanted to go to), that was depressing0 -

Can any kind soul group these places into some order for ease of access on each day, would guess the subway would be best or even walking is possible.
Staying in Chelsea by the way
Hope that helps, anyone feel free to correct me if I have got any in the wrong order.

oh !!!! me, people are actually recommending one of the tourist trap places as a restaurant to go to... shoot me now, or lock me up, i'll go insane if i actually see someone recommending places like bubba gump, planet hollywood, or tgi !!!!ing fridays...
get your !!!! down to little italy, tribeca, and find some proper new york restaurants / bars, where people who live in new york actually go... you might find out that they are better quality food / drink, lower prices, and you'll have a better time overall, and actually see new york for what it is, not just flashing lights and yellow cabs..
oh.. and this topic should be merged with the main NYC topic as well, 1100 posts, meh... click on said thread..
click - search within this thread
and you can find specifically what you want, without having to read all 55 pages....0 -

Aside from the sticky, we've 3 supplementary threads for Flights, Hotels & Shopping. It's simply not feasible to have all 4 NY threads stuck on the Travel board for those who don't search or take notice of the "Read Me First" sticky. :A
I've merged this with the NY sticky0 -
Quick question about the subway and bare with me because I know it's one open to opinion...
People say that we shouldn't use the subway or walk around late at night but how late is late?! We were planning on getting taxi's after midnight but have people not felt safe being out walking/being on the subway earlier than this?Lightbulb moment Jan 7th 2010 - all debts cleared by Dec 2010

let me start singing...
i wanna wake up in the city that doesn't sleeeeeeeep....
so... with that now in mind... what is too late to get the subway..
hmm.. depends.. manhattan... any time is theoretically ok, stand in the Yellow Off Hours waiting areas, which means the person on duty at the station, or the CCTV cameras can see you. also, you board the train in the yellow off hours section, you'll be in the conductors carriage..
For my preference for the subway... i think the latest i've caught one is around 1am... so personally, i don't think you have a problem.... the only reason why i don't get one back to the hotel after i've been out for the night, is they are less frequent after 1am, and when i'm a little tipsy, i just wanna crawl into my bed... so a taxi whisks me back to my hotel room...
ok.. i've wandered a lot of manhattan streets... wandering the streets of manhattan is fun any time of day,
now, i've been up as early as 7am, wandering around, and you see the people rushing off to work, while i stroll along with a cup of coffee in hand, and hazy eyes...
and the latest... well.. umm.. I think once, i walked about 10 blocks back from a bar, to my hotel, and it was gone 5am...
so... i can't comment for 5am - 7am, but the other 22 hours of the day are fine!!!

c'mon.... option B is going to happen regardless!!!!!
fingers crossed though
Top Tip, check everyone has ALL the documents they might need, including driving licences, BEFORE you leave the house. Trust NO-ONE! :money:Have a great time.
Here's a whole hearted thanks to you all for putting up with me.
First (and possibly last posted!) impressions:
All five of us AND DH's wallet reached Gatwick successfully and in good time.
Zoom is a lovely airline. Check-in straightforward, sorted out hassles quickly (DS1 had apparently already boarded when we got to the gate) and it wasn't one of US who was held up there because there appeared to be something in a suitcase which might endanger the safety of the flight! Free soft drinks, meals, and even a dinky little Lily O'Brien ice cream! Friendly helpful cabin staff, I'm not a frequent flier but I would fly with them again in preference to the budgets I've used.
Immigration - FAR nicer than I expected, no hassle at all, even a joke about how DS3 needs a new photo in his passport because the sweet innocent photo of a 12 yo in school uniform is a far cry from the long-haired young man looming over the desk. :rotfl: Oh and apparently DS2 wasn't on the flight list, but that wasn't a problem either.
Supershuttle - never again! If I've booked (and paid extra) for exclusive use, that's what I expect! Didn't make a fuss at the time because that didn't seem fair to the other people expecting to be picked up with us, but strongly worded email about to go off to them.
New York - BIG. Hot, humid.
Cosmopolitan - all I'd been led to expect. Comfy, friendly, bijou. (Which means if you're bringing a cat you want to swing, get a two bedded room.)
Reade's - great.
My only lack is a cup of Redbush / Rooibos tea. Suggestions on a postcard please ...
Off to write that email ...
Oh, and DON'T come in July if you don't like it hot and humid. I know, I was warned ...Signature removed for peace of mind0
