Hello everyone.
I am traveling to New York in early November with a friend. I am hopefully going to do a bit of shopping while there and would be grateful if you have any travel tips on things to see & do. I have booked the flight and hotel. So all I am trying to do now is plan the trip.

good walking shoes are a must
eat and eat some more, the food is fab but often there is lots of fried stuff, we went to babba shrimp in times square, typically touristy but great if you like prawns, it's nothing groundbreaking but the experince was fun
we did a boat trip upto the statue of liberty and back (it didn't stop there), it was wonderful and if the weather is bad it's an easy option
the empire state building is a must but go early as it does get very busy, don't bother going to the very very top as you get to see just as much as from the main floor
don't do the horse and cart thing at central park, waste of time and money, the toys shop swartz is also not all that so I wouldnt bother. shops like macys and bloomingdales are lovely, especially the purfume areas.grand central station is worth a peek too, the buildings in new york for me, are the main attraction, so just keep your eyes up and keep on walking, you are going to have an amazing time, it's very safe there and great fun0 -

i don't get that !
instead of the OP going through a sticky thread which will have all the answers they require ....you would rather posters contribute all over again and waste their time.
i fear that this site especially the travel section could end up with people not bothering to post.
the amount of identical topics that get asked week in and week out is incredible.
the most annoying which i certainly won't bother with is this one..........
"i am really too lazy to search for a holiday for myself so could some mug please spend a load of time doing the searching for me? once you have spent time looking and posting i will continually change the goalposts thus making your time spent completely pointless"0 -

Century 21!!! Wall Street tube station, opposite Ground Zero (sadly) but it really is amazing shopping experience. Loads of discount designer stuff - ranging from Guess to Versace. They have unbranded stuff there too.0

hey corrig24, my hubby and I went to New York to get married last Oct (hadnt been before). We were in it for nine days in total. My tip relates to using the hop on hop off tourist buses.
its ok to use the hop on hop off tourist buses for one trip around, great way to see the city, but you cant really use them for general transport (we got a ticket for a few days) and they only go one direction- so say you got it at empire state building and wanted to go to the area of the twin towers, the only way to get back to where you started is to stay on the bus until it gets to times sqaure and then you need to get another bus, back to the empire state. Also we noticed a lot of the time it was hard to 'hop on' as the bus would be full - so we stopped waiting and hailed a taxi- so after that rambling explanation- my advice is get a taxi.
Just as an add on - many sectors in New York are shameless about looking for tips. Some restaurants will add your tip into bill- something I dont really like. After we got married in city hall we went to a little restaurant and ordered ourselves a lovely steak meal with champagne. Well obviously, we were in very good moods and even though our waitress hadnt really done anything for us, because of the day that was in it, we decided to give the waitress a really big tip. So we asked for the bill and we noticed that our tip had been already added into the bill under 'gratuities' and actually was a lot less than we were going to give here- so we thought if thats what she wants, thats what she gets ....:)0 -

hey, I ain't complaining about it, I meerly said that some people don't have the time (or are too lazy too) to go through 1100 posts and that's obviously a problem, if it wasnt' then we wouldn't get repeated questions, how may threads are there on ryanair, repeated questions all the time but even if we had a sticky people would still post, and there are those of us who will always answer them despite there being a sticky, if you won't want to help then cool, if you do then that's cool too
what may be better is to split the sticky up into sections such as flights, accommodation, what to do etc, I don't know if this is possible but it may be more user friendly if it was0 -
