My very recent experience with Oakfurnitureland was greeted with a very poor level of service.

Their courier failed to follow the instruction of making a phone call well before arriving. So unfortunately, there was nobody around to receive the order.

I got in touch with Oakfurnitureland and the said that they would refund but would charge £50 for return delivery. The item has not yet been successfully delivered so would be sent back to their warehouse anyway. Clearly this £50 delivery return is a stitch up.

It's really unfortunate that they have not made any serious effort at all to satisfy their customer.

Given this unhappy experience I would highly avoid them.
    I know nothing
  • i have been looking into the oakfurnitureland website and very interested in getting the tokyo teak mango cofee table and side plus the eden writing desk, just read all these threads and somehow confused as to going ahead with it.....please advice, thanks in advance
  • Has anyone had any recent transactions with this company?
Im debating buying from them. As a company them seem ok, am just worried about the item getting damaged in transit as thats why many members say.
    thanks

I just bought some furniture from them in Dec, and it arrived last week.

The dining table is stunning - really much better than I thought it'd be.
The wood has so much depth to it, it catches the light and is a beautiful piece. It's perfect and unblemished, and I'm extremely pleased with it.

I also bought some dining chairs. These all arrived well packed and are also perfect. The shade of leather is consistent across all the chairs, they are well made and look really good. Again very, very pleased.

With these items alone my dining room is completely transformed - it looks fantastic.

I bought a sideboard from them at the same time, but unfortunately there is a scrape on the top. If it had been anywhere else I'd probably have kept it, but on the top it's most noticeable. Looking at this more closely today, I think it may have happened during manufacture rather than transportation - it looks like it has been rubbed over afterwards.

I've been in touch and am awaiting an email. Will keep you posted on how this transpires, but from the conversations I've had with the company I must say I'm not expecting problems.
  • I ordered my 9th piece of the light mango range a couple of weeks ago. It was a cupboard/sideboard and when it arrived one of the doors wouldnt quite close easily. When I phoned them we struck a deal and I have now sanded the bottom of the door myself and all is perfect, VERY happy with how they handled it :)

Does anyone know when they have their seconds sales in Chippenham? I want to buy some damaged furniture from them just to use some of the wood to make some matching shelves... emailed them and they told me they do a once a month auction of their damaged items...

    Hi,
The sales seem to be about every 4 weeks or so. They advertise them in the local paper. Don't know where you live, but the ad is in the Gazette and Herald, and also our local freebie paper that we normally get on a Wednesday.

If I see the ad I'll try to remember to post on here.

We have had some really good bargins from their clearence sales. You need to get there for when it opens on the Saturday morning.

Some of the stuff is quite badly damaged, but a lot of it has only got fairly minor damaged, easily repaired, and some has no obvious damage at all.
We got a large solid oak coffee table for £20 once, and I got a really nice solid birch console table for the hall for £45, neither piece had any damage. They often have several ones of each item, so it's worth hunting around for the best ones with the least damage.
We now tend to go along when the sales are on, sometimes we get something we want, sometimes not, luckily we live in Chippenham so it's easy enough to pop along on a Saturday morning, and are gradually getting some reallly nice pieces of furniture.

  • I would be coming a fair way, but need to source the wood somehow so it would be a worthwhile saturday morning drive....

If you do manage to remember please do post the details of the next sale for me - I would really appreciate it :)

After reading this thread I took the plunge in December and ordered some furniture, not least because they were cheaper than even the sales prices on the high street.
It has now arrived. It is very nice and appears to be well constructed. However, one of the four items has a chunk missing from the leg and hasn't been finished properly. A second item has been dropped (or had some impact) in transit as there is huge cracking in the corner (to the extent that the drawers won't shut) and the packing material is embedded in the wood. So we phoned, and they said to e-mail the details, so I wrote a letter with some photos and sent it to them as an attachment to the e-mail. They have now written back and asked me to explain what the problem is - so couldn't/didn't read the attachment. I've asked for them to be replaced because there's no way a "local carpenter" could fix this for £50.
I'll keep this thread updated with what happens: if they solve this then it'll be thumbs up despite the aggro...
  • Unfortunately I got stung by these guys as well - and as with almost everyone else on here they tried to blame the couriers. I had no idea they had anything to do with Container clearance company - these guys robbed me over a kiddies electric jeep I bought on eBay. They were under the name 'screaming milly' I had to take them to small claims in the end. Absolute nightmare.

I would warn everyone away from these dodgy dealers - if it seems too good/cheap to be true, it normally is!

Our experience is similar to other on here: Furniture arrives, badly damaged, oak furniture state that "it wouldn't be worth their while to replace the unit with an undamaged one" so they will either give a discount or give a refund once their courier recollects (one can only presume that they do not have any undamaged units to send out!). Unfortunately the courier didn't come to collect the faulty unit as arranged, so refund yet. Looks like we'll have to claim on the credit card.
