Another vote here for avoiding. I received three items, two were damaged (one minor, one major). Refused to send a picture as I didn't have access to a camera at the time. It was a month before they could send somebody out to look at the items. Now it's two weeks since he came out and rectified one item ,the other needs to be replaced. He said that they would arrange a replacement and be in touch soon. Still no contact from them. I have called twice, both times when it gets through they just hang up as you briefly hear a noisy office background before going dead. I have sent an online service request again which has gone unanswered. My next step is to send a letter giving them 14 days to rectify, otherwise I'm going to raise a claim with my credit card.
  • I have read with interest all the posts on this thread, very useful indeed. I have an ongoing issue with recent purchases, on which I will keep all informed as the details unravel. Suffice to say I have acted swiftly, recorded all conversations and documented in writing and will take all available measures to resolve the issue. Good luck to anyone else with an unresolved situation, I hope you have a great Christmas and New Year. It is surely in everyone’s interest to resolve such matters amicably; if I gather anything that can assist I will pass it on.

    Hello
In the interest of balance I have to say my recent purchase of a solid oak table in the sale was superb.
I ordered it via the showroom in Chippenham on the Friday after Christmas, and had an email soon after that sameday confirming the order. I had a phone call the same afternoon confirming delivery for Wednesday 2nd Jan and was told I would have another email within 48 hours of the delivery to confirm the timeslot.
This also arrived as promised giving a window of 13.30 - 16.30. The drivers we actually early as there was no traffic about and it arrived at 12.30 ish - they also called my mobile to let me know.
The package had some superficial damage which I photographed before I opened it but the table inside was unaffected. We assembled the legs onto the base and are very pleased with our solid oak table.
Hope this helps someone, maybe it is better to look at the showroom so you have a name and contact if something does go wrong!
    Hapy New Year to all:beer:

After reading some of the problems in this thread we used trade furniture company instead. They do there own deliveries, and they brought the furniture into the house, unpackaged it and insisted we thoroughly inspected it. Once we had they placed it where we wanted it and took all the packaging away with them. The furniture is excellent quality, were very pleased and the price was very competitive too.

There ranges aren't as vast as oak furniture land but they have a good selection.

In case anyone is wondering I'm not in any way associated with the company, just a very satisfied customer.

Just thought I'd provide a further update, the replacement item that was sent out just before Christmas was also damaged. Their quality control team/inspectors need extra training or have their eyes tested. Again one of the drawer fronts was split all the way through and about two inch from the QC Passed sticker their was damage to the back corner where there is a one inch chip in the wood. In my opinion none of this damage was caused in transit as the packaging wasn't damaged.

So now we have had to go through the whole performance of another day off work waiting for one of their service personnel to come and inspect despite me sending photos this time. That took three weeks. Now he has been and is sending his report in to them, and no doubt will have to take more time off work (which will be the fifth day in total now) when they finally arrange to re-deliver. I have no doubt about the quality of the furniture IF it arrives undamaged, however their customer service is truly appalling.

In fact I'm not even sure their insistence on refusing to allow you to return items before you provide photos and accept a visit from a service engineer to inspect the goods is actually legal? Phil Spencer needs to take a long hard look at himself endorsing this shower.

At the time of writing previously we had 1 of 3 pieces delivered which was defective. Once past the minions at customer service our defective piece was replaced after Christmas and all is well. It was slightly inconvenent but these things happen and as they resolved the matter very quickly (just over a month is not bad given we were in the caribbean for two weeks is not bad) we should give them credit. Contact your credit card company asap - they will take up your case in case of defective goods. You also have 7 days after delivery date to get your money back, request it don't be shy. Ask to speak to Ian.

Made online purchase of a bookcase and a small coffee table from OFL early last year and thoroughly please with the purchase. No delays on the order, delivered when expected, quality of items seems good and no damage to items. Looking at the other posts on here maybe we were just lucky, but I personally would use them again based on our last experience.

We placed an order with them last night at their Metrocentre shop for a large dining table, six chairs and a small sideboard for our dining room. On the way out I saw a second example display item of the dining table we've ordered. It had a huge crack in one end of the table top. I then had a look at a few other tables and they had what looked like shrinkage cracks. I asked the lass who had just done our order why their display units were cracked and she blamed the temperature differences experienced in store when their heating system packed up. They said the show room had experienced temperature swings of -10c when the heating packed up, to +28c when they tried to get the showroom back up to temp as quick as possible. Initially this satisfied me, but after reading this thread it seems that OFL use non-seasoned Oak which will shrink and crack when it aclimatises to your home and inevitably dries out. I suppose OFL's insistence upon oiling up their furniture is more to do with putting a barrier on to keep that moisture in or slow the rate of loss through aclimatisation than anything else. When woods are seassoned to the point that they do not have an excessive amount of moisture in them prior to machining and assembling then they shouldn't need oiling for anything other than aesthetic reasons and they shouldn't crack or warp when subjected to some extremes of domestic temperatures - do colder climes all use plastic dining tables?

Do I take a chance or cancel the order? After reading this thread it seems like 80% of the people here have issue with their stuff and the other 20% either work for OFL or are very lucky.

I rushed into it as their sale ended yesterday supposedly (I have yet to check out today's discounts).

I need to check my paperwork to see what cancellation restrictions they have e.g. do they apply the same cancellation rules instore as you get via distance selling regs when buying over the net.
  • I don't work for Oak Furniture land and don't see myself as lucky really.

I ordered a side board, tv unit, book case, display cabinet and coffee table. Due to an offer they had I got a free mirror. My heating isn't on constantly as me and my hubby work full time so the temp will fluctuate and not cracks whatsoever and its been more than 12 months.

The mirror was broken on arrival and we e-mailed OFL and they asked for a photo with measurements of the damage etc but it was totally smashed so I just sent the picture, within 24 hrs the old mirror was collected and replaced with a new one no problems.

I think if massive cracks starting appearing in the first 12 months they would have had hard time arguing about replacement with you and if you did then you have the furniture Ombudsman to fall back on:

If you like what you have ordered and your happy with the price I personally would continue and if you do experience problems then you have a back up!
