My son and I shared a Domino's pizza the other night - it was free from I am moving - a freebie I saw on this site. we had half and half - he had tuna and sweetcorn I had pepperoni. It was just about ok - nowhere near as nice as the ones we make ourselves - which have loads of topping and taste yummy. I do buy ready made bases(back of the class for me) but if I had paid for the Dominos (roughly the £10 mark) I would have felt gutted.
We mad some yummy fairy cakes the other day too - normal victoria sponge with a bit of lemon zest and then topped with a mixture of lemon curd and mascarpone cheese - they were sooo good I couldn't stop scoffing them - a million times more moist then any bought ones.0 -
I am waiting for an ice cream maker to be delivered so that I can make my own sorbets without the additives, fat and sugar.:j"This site is addictive!"

Mmmmm, yum, yum, yum, mmmm. They sound really yummy.
We've given up having bagels as they were always there as a necessity, but we didn't need them thanks to the extortionate cost it added to our sandwiches to work bill. I do miss the cinnamon and raisin bagels though........ the best ones were the Tesco own brand at 99p for 5. Now if we're feeling peckish we either have a bowl of branflakes or a piece of fruit (at snack time).
Also stopped buying those Mr Kipling cake bars. I make banana cake instead and freeze it until we need another loaf to demolish! Need to make some more this weekend as we've got bananas going black in the kitchen. Oh, and I should be making some more of my lovely chocolate beetroot cake soon.
Can't give up my chinese takeaways though - yet. We don't have them very often, but sometimes it's nice when I get back late from school. I also haven't given up my one bottle of wine a week, however I bought a few bottles from the latest Tesco 30% off deal which will last me a couple of weeks.
Toiletries I'm lucky because my gran goes out and buys the whole of Boots and Superdrug at Christmas and birthday so the rate I'm going I'll just have run out by Christmas!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 #18 £2021.83 declared0 -

We have a recipe for bagels in the Breadmaking Thread. Just follow the blue (Index) in my signature.
Just add about three teaspoons of cinnamon to the mix if you wish.

I'm ashamed to say that I don't own a breadmaker. Please don't thrown me out of the fraternity (hangs head in shame). There's just no room in my kitchen - the slow cooker gets stored in the dining room! Oh to have a house that I own and I can put more cupboard in......................
I'd only eat everything that I made in the breadmaker in 5 mins anyway. I'm supposed to be getting married next year, wouldn't want my dad to roll me up to the altar because of all the lovely things I'd baked and eaten!
PS Do I get points for owning a slow cooker? Please?Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 #18 £2021.83 declared0 -

Sure. But you don't get your points for the slow cooker - you get them ALL for being an MSE'er
Of course, you could make the dough by hand... think of all the lovely muscles you'll build up

I don't have have to worry so much about cancer inducing food additives any more!!
when the list of food with Sudan 1 in it was published I went through the list and I can honestly say I didn't have anythingto worry about.
But I have to confess i don't buy organic so there's probably something that will get me in the end.
Has anyone else noticed how no-one ever seems to get boils anymore but when I was a child they were very common - but back in those days they didn't stuff farm animals full of antibiotics (showing my age here)It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

Squeaky's version is one old fashioned way to do it, but you could it make up also using:-
a) dried milk (Marvel is the better of the bunch) you won't get the taste of it because the cocoa powder is the stronger flavour, plus it has a fair shelf life and won't eat into your fresh milk reserves
b) Carnation Coffee Compliment/equivalent (dry powder, creamier in flavour than Marvel) added to the water/cocoa version.
Luxury Hot Chocolate: Simply add grated chocolate to warmed/heatedmilk - easy peasy!
(you could keep a jar of pre grated chocolate in the fridge so you would only need to add to taste when you warmed your milk up)
#2 - as above then add a blob of stiffly whipped cream and dust the top with cocoa powder) Christmas wouldn't be Christmas w/out *real* hot chocolate LOL No cream?
#3 as per original cocoa powder version, but dd some mini marshmellows (or the larger one's chopped up to sweeten
Now to topic ....
Treats? Well, I've always lived a fairly frugal lifestyle, so most of my *acheivements* result from changing my dh's attitude! (Mr Spendy-get-it-on-credit-you-only-live-once!). His passion is ice cream - step one was to wean him off Hagen Das; step two - to reduce the *amount* (this man could scoff a whole tub to himself watching TV!) ... step three - introduce homemade
step four - Hagan Das who?
I also had to wean him off, not just "sugary" cereals, but  he would also sprinkle sugar on the top!! :wall:
Oh yes, and changing his way of thinking regarding his meat n 2 veg! No, you do not have to have top cuts of meat at every meal!!! Yes, corned beef *is* a meal, yes, sardines are not just for toast and can also be a *meal* and no, there are other things to put in a sandwich other than cold, sliced meats. Wonder if he rues the day he married me!?

Despite getting inspired by another thread on this site yesterday, I got really lazy and we bought shop pizzas for dinner last night (ok they were on offer...)
BUT neither of us could sleep well last night, guess it must have been all the additives etc that we're just not used to.
Another thing I can't enjoy any more is full cream milk. It's just too rich & the smell of the cream makes me feel ill. I buy one bottle for dh to have on his breakfast cereal, but ys & I have - and prefer - UHT skimmed!0
