Hi all, I ordered a mobile phone on contract from Dial-A-Phone last night. It's a K810i on O2 for 12 months. When I ordered, the total price to pay was nothing. I checked my bank balance online today and it says my available balance is £10 less than my current balance.

I phoned my bank and they said £5.00 was taken out at 20:41 last night, (the time I ordered the phone) and another £5.00 was taken out this morning at 11:53. Now I didn't pay for fast delivery or anything like that and I certainly don't know anything about a charge for a credit check before they issue a phone!

I have just received a new bank card and this is the first thing I have purchased on it, so the money must have been taken out by DAP as no other company has my new bank card details. I'm just completely baffled as to why it's been taken out.

My bank weren't much help - they said I need to phone back tomorrow when they can tell me exactly who has been taking the money out  .

i would ring dial a phone. they certainly shouldn't charge for a credit check. they could possibly debit then refund the £5 as part of the credit check though, to checki the account is live. but as far as i know t-mobile do this and it's only £2
:p It is better to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt

I just phoned them, they said they generally don't charge for a credit check. I was just told to email customer care  .

Seems funny though because officially the money is still in the account, I wonder if it will sort itself out by tomorrow.

Hi, I have recently purchased a K810i from Dialaphone. I've received all the paperwork but no cashback forms. The terms and conditions say all they require for a cashback claim is the airtime bill. Don't I have to send any sort of form in explaining what I am trying to claim?

Check this FAQ from their site - it doesn't mention any forms.... although I would include a short covering letter

Yeah, I'd like to know this too. The link in the help section doesnt work. Can someone post the qualifying period, which I presume is from the date of the bill, and whether they accept copies/ print outs of online bills etc.

Also, what is the timeframe like from their receipt of your claim to receiving the cheque? Do you receive a text/ letter to confirm their receipt, and is there any telephone number to discuss claims, or is all correspondence done in writing. Thanks
  • Just to let people know, I signed up for an 18 month half price contract with Dial - A - Phone. Once I had signed up I found out that the half price contract was by redemption only, even though I wasn't best please with this I thought I'd be ok. A couple of month later, funnily enough when I sent all forms and bills back the first time, I was advised that the redemption would be in airtime. Having sought out a contract that I knew I wouldn't go above I definately wasn't pleased with this. I contacted Orange, the provider, to complain, they knew nothing about this, airtime credit, and stated that they'd had several calls of this nature with regards to this company, and advised me to contact Dial A Phone, which I duly did, only to be met, the complete way through, by an automated service, which "didn't understand my question" when I queried redemption charges. The only way you can possibly speak to a person with this company is to dial the sales number, who promptly redirect me, at least a dozen times over three months, to the automated service.

The last redemption is impossible to meet, giving you one month to redeem any charges, and considering that the bill from Orange, which you have to send to Dial a Phone, takes over a month to appear on your doormat!!!

Out of four redemptions I've only received two, one because I couldn't access the information I needed, and the other because it was impossible. I've been unable to contact anyone about these issues, either on the telephone or by letter, to the Redemption Centre, I've sent two letter, both have gone unreplied.

Just a word of warning:mad:

This is from Dial A Phone's help section (http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/help.html#Questions%20about%20Redemptions%20and%20Cashback)

"When will I get the money?
We will process your refund as fast as possible. Redemptions are either paid to you by cheque (for 3, Tmobile, O2 and BT customers) or directly into your airtime account (Vodafone and Orange customers)
3, T-Mobile, O2, and BT customers - once we have received your claim, the cheque will be with you within 7/10 working days.
Vodafone and Orange customers - because we have to credit your money through the network onto your bill, the payment may not catch your next bill. If it doesn't, it should be on the following bill.
You can check any payments made to you by clicking on Payment History."
Not sticking up for DAP but this is clear enough on their website.

I am going to get 2 contracts with them at the end of this month as the feedback on here about them has generally been very positive.

If Orange are receiving similar calls complaining then they themselves should be taking action against DAP. Terms should be reasonable and understandable. Complain to trading standards if you need.

Orange and vodafone must know that this is happening because once the airtime has been credited to the bill the customers will be calling them to try and extract the money to their bank accounts. I think they are happy to be holding onto that extra money even if only to earn interest on it.
