Morning all
Well it wasn't until gone 7pm that me and DS left the house with his bike and cycled for a short while, but he was happy,so all was well
I have to hold my hands upI bought a Dyson yesterday. In my defence, I have needed a hoover since April, but put it off until my debt was paid. Tescoos has one for £149.00 plus 10k in clubcard points. I've never gone for a Dyson before, but the amount i've spent on budget vacuums in the past, have added up to far more in a short space of time.
LSK, when I was at your stage of pregnancy, I was eating continuously, so it's not surprising your spend was food
Luckystarr, you've had great responses, but it is so true that something will just click and you'll do it. I knew I needed to do something long before I did. Until mid 30's I was not in debt ever, but it built up quickly and like you said, the harder I worked, the more I justified what i wanted/was buying and I did deserve it-but couldn't afford it, so I had to make adjustments, but i didn't want to. Until I hit 40 and ironically was in a place iconic for losing money :rotfl: There is no one size fits all. Give yourself a realistic figure to try to clear each month. Don't be put off by how long it will take. Time flies unless your pregnantI can remember my first 500.00 payment and clearing it felt like forever, 2 years have passed very quickly! You'll get there in the end, once you've decided the time is right

I read this today:
Stop. Step back. Think. What are your true priorities in life? What really matters? Write down the 3 most important items in your life. Now look at what you do each day, and what you have planned this week. Are these congruent? If not, align them. Work on your #1 priority 1st thing every morning, whether it is family, faith, fitness, or finances. Make time for what matters.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
What a lovely post apple! I think I'm going to try that tomorrow.

Hi all! Yesterday ended up being a tech-free day for the most part, went to the rugby with my parents and our team won thankfully, which means we're staying in the top league next year!
Had a haircut yesterday so spent money, and had to buy some face wash today so also spent today (but only spent £1.50 rather than the £20 I used to spend on cleanser). Rest of the week I'm hoping for low spends as OH did the shopping today so we shouldn't need anything except a card for the wedding next weekend! Hope everyone's had a relaxing weekendBought my first house in 2014 - now, to be mortgage free!

hey luckystarr.
on my phone so apologies for any errors. I am posting because I did this with my dad.
Basically I was absolutely awful with money and was decimating my bank account before the end of the month. To the point that I was forgetting about my council tax and running out of money before it came off.
I was speaking to my dad about never having enough money and he showed me where I was going wrong. My brother had had a similar financial problem in his youth and my dad had taken over his accounts. So I asked my dad to do the same for me.
The old version of this was that I got £400 a month for food, fuel and anything I wanted (clothes, films, going out, etc).
My dad kept hold of the main account + card and he ensured all my outgoing bills were paid.
I budgetted poorly. Quite often running out of money half way through the month... but my dad always had a bit spare for me.
Fast forward to today and I now have an OH. His financial skills are a bit iffy (to say the least) so I have kept my main account with my dad.
We now have a joint account which we each put an equal amount into to pay all the bills, then we have our own accounts that iur excess wages go into. Finally, I still have my wee budget account of £400 a month which now covers half the food, all my fuel and several savings pots.
I have rambled on quite significantly and don't know if this will help... but it can't be too bad an idea as it has worked for me and my brother really well.
Any other question, just ask.Mortgage: £0/£80,329.91

luckystarr you have to find whatever works for you. Personally having someone else hold my cards and budget for me wouldn't work for me because I needed to do it myself in order to make a permanent change. However, OH is worse with money than me, there's no way I could have given him my cards so I guess I didn't have that option. Just do whatever is going to work for you
academia blues well done on your tech free day yesterday and your mucho reduced cleanser spend.
Bob hope you had a lovely roast at your friends.
A NSD for me - was planning to go to the cinema tonight with a friend but she's not feeling well so I'm going to pop round to hers to watch a DVD instead.Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.8.25 - £106,362.86

Wow, everyone seems to be doing really well in attitudes to spending if not NSDs.
We've unfortunately had a very spendy weekend and the car boot today was a complete waste of time. Oh well, at least we have a lot less clutter in the house as it's all gone to the charity shop now. Spent £8 in B&Q yesterday as we want to tidy up our fireplace in out living room but it's taking a while to decide what to do. We have an old hearth and the hole which is very uneven so was thinking of boarding it up and painting (with materials already owned) to brighten it up. Considering I'm almost 33, I have no grown up ideas for decorating haha.
Hoping for a quiet week this week with only spends on Thursday except playgroups. I hope everyone's had a great weekend xTOTAL DEBT £12,212.46/£2000 paid offDebt Free Goal September 2017#106 Emergency Fund £482.53/£10000 -
Hi everyone!
Well done to every one of you who has made good progress already in October!
I've had an eventful start to the month. Picked up my new car, which I love and is so much easier getting my business items in and out of. It also had a fair amount of fuel in, so I can put off my planned fuel spend. Completed a booking on Friday and have had another firm booking with deposit payed. Have also had some more orders for the items I am selling, so all good on that front. I have also been offered a shop rent free for 3 months in the run up to Xmas. I have a meeting about it this week, but it sounds very exciting!
My new uni has messed up a bit and the course is running on different days than what they advertised. It's going to mess up my hours at work and also mean me driving back and forth to the uni for 2 hours sessions here and there throughout the week. I have emailed to complain and they have asked me to attend a meeting this week, but I doubt they will be able to change the timetable at this stage. So, I may be giving up on my masters already!0
