I think with all these sorts of things it depends on who you are scrimping from.

If you want to water down your own vodka so it lasts you longer then that's fine. Money Saving and better for you.
If you want to take a bottle of watered down vodka to a party and say "hey, does anyone want some of my watered down vodka - I can't tell the difference in taste, so it's worth giving it a go" that's fine too.
But if you take a bottle of watered down vodka to a party and pretend that it's full strength then that's out of order.

Had a friend who would take an empty vacuum flask to work and take home hot water.

Oh....& the same great uncle as in my first post, above. He drove a Jag, but not very often as he didn't like spending out on petrol. His car lived in a carpeted garage & each day he went out there & drove the car a few inches backwards or forwards so the tyres would wear more evenly.

    This made me giggle!!

That reminds me, when I was at uni and living in a house with 3 other lads, there were 2 of us that use to go out all the time. One of the other guys in the house had a car and use to charge us to take us to the uni or wherever it was we were going for a night out.

In fairness I kind of see where he's coming from with this because he would have to pay for fuel, insurance plus the cars wear & tear would mean he would eventually pay for servicing etc. However, if he OFFERED the lift & took you there without mentioning payment, then asked you for money then I could see why that would be a little annoying. Alternatively you would have had to pay for buses or taxis anyway so he probably saved you money.

Nothing wrong with that - I used to have a housemate who didn't drive and was for ever wanting lifts into town etc. I used to charge him for the petrol - but he was happy with this as it was cheaper than getting a taxi. I didn't charge him if I was going there anyway, only if it was a special journey.

And I didn't charge to take him to A&E when he cut his hand open with the bread knife! I thought that would be a bit harsh (actually he did pay for the parking at the hospital though because I had no change :rotfl:)

You know those wooden stirrers you get in coffee shops for stirring your coffee? I know someone who takes those home to use as plant labels in his garden.

I remember living in a house share with 4 others years ago and we were all working full time.

We would take it in turn to prepare meals so one night I made spaghetti bolognese another night someone made a curry, etc. One night a house mate asked who would like fajitas for dinner and then after we had finished tried to charge us for the ingredients even though he had been happily eating our food free of charge for weeks.

We also had an a jar where we put money for communal things like toilet paper and milk. He never put money in the jar (although he used the things bought with the money) but I did catch him several times helping himself to money from the jar for bus fares.

My family cringe at me reusing teabags - but then I like my tea horrendously weak. (A carboot teapot has eased them past most of the trauma.)

When introducing my young sons to the Christmas sprout idea, I bought one per child. Thank god for self serve tills as I did blush a bit at that, but when a fellow Scout mum saw me, she looked, laughed & tried it herself.

The most hair-raising MS foodstuff I ever heard of at University was cats'smeat chilli. I would love to think it was a mean prank, but knowing the lads involved, I fear it may well have been true. (As in a jar held out for sale for Tiddles' delectation, not catch, eviscerate & eat someone's pet.)

Yeah that is a good point. I also had a car but didn't charge people for lifts unless it was a long distance, everyone is different I suppose.

My dad puts hot water on his cereal...he says it's because the milk is too cold. I think it's because he grew up on a farm, and used to have milk straight from the cow and still warm in the mornings...either that or it's also something he learned from his parents and their wartime habits. He picked up other things from them too, like he's right handed but both his parents were left handed and he uses a knife and fork the left handed way...
