Do you remember that programme on C4, "Super Scimpers?" I caught an episode once and one of the money savings tips was to freeze leftover wine in an icecube tray for when you make spaghetti bolognese and the like.

I remember thinking, "what's leftover wine?"
  • Watering down milk in cereal...yep I read that read and yep I tried it, it was degusting

Reusing Teabags, tried that too...Gross but then I was buying a box for 20p lol

squeeze toilet roll so its harder to get longer piece off

At my extreme poorest I pretty much tried every 'tip' going just to see. If it worked it stuck if not then it was just a giggle :-D

I actually quite like this tip, as I never have wine in for recipes. However Ive never done it, I normally just leave it out!

When we were younger, a friend got invited out by another friend of ours for a drive. When they got back he tolf her that would be £5 petrol money please!

Re cafes and boiling water: I used to work in a cafe and I would charge for hot water if it was the only thing the table consumed. The price of a cup of tea in a cafe is not the teabag: it's the lights, the wages, the rates. We used to have a group of 8 who would come in just before closing and order hot waters. They couldn't understand why I would charge them. They probably thought I was being terribly money grabbing, I thought they were being cheap and rude!

OTH, I have cancelled orders and walked out of cafes who refused to serve tap water alongside other purchased beverages. If I'm paying for a drink, I don't think it's rude to ask for hot/ cold tap water.

That reminds me, when I was at uni and living in a house with 3 other lads, there were 2 of us that use to go out all the time. One of the other guys in the house had a car and use to charge us to take us to the uni or wherever it was we were going for a night out.

Years ago when we were kids, a quite well off Great Aunty & Uncle sent my sister & I a 25p postal order between us, at Christmas. As in 12 & a half pence each. My sister's thankyou letter went like this:
"Dear Aunty _____ & Uncle _______, Thank you for the postal order. I added some money to my half & bought a Mars bar".
My Mum made her re-write it, which was a shame, as she was only being truthful.

And another funny cheapskate gift. A flatmate & I once received a joint present from another friend. It was a spaghetti serving fork. Between us. She accidentally left the price on. 13 pence!!

Couldn't agree more. I have two jugs of tap water on the bar at all times. I'm also far more lenient than a lot of my local competion, don't mind if people charge mobiles or laptops, & have free WiFi. I will happily give bowls of hot water to heat baby food in.
In that example of your 8 customers coming in just for boiling water I'd be in the same camp as you. Businesses are there to make money not sub others.

Oh....& the same great uncle as in my first post, above. He drove a Jag, but not very often as he didn't like spending out on petrol. His car lived in a carpeted garage & each day he went out there & drove the car a few inches backwards or forwards so the tyres would wear more evenly.
