A good few years ago - I was so poor, I remember counting out in Tesco the exact amount of Brussels I would need to buy for my Christmas dinner.
I get my shopping delivered. I think I'm something of a standing joke with the Tesco drivers in my area by now, because my last delivery before Christmas always includes a bag containing exactly 5 sprouts :rotfl:
(In my defence, I'm only cooking for myself!)I was cut out to be rich, but got sewn up wrong.0 -
You guys should keep an eye out on tv for the 'extreme cheapskates' program....it's american, but some of the things they do are horrendous!
There was a guy who only had 1 lightbulb and would put it in the room that everyone was using so no one could leave a light on anywhere else! If someone wanted the toilet they had to take a candle...made me wonder if they went through lots of candles would it have been cheaper to have another few lightbulbs?
There was also a lady who was a millionaire and served her guest a sandwich made with catfood tuna instead of proper tinned tuna because it 'tastes the same' and was something like 8cents cheaper per tinDebt FREE thanks to YNAB0 -

I always sort through steaks and mackerel fillets in the supermarket to get the cheapest one... That's probably a bit cringe0

Me and my friend were skint 17 year olds and our other friend was getting married and she sent a wedding list round. They were a few pricey things on it and a few other ideas, including a ship in bottle. My friend and I went to a car boot sale and happened to see a ship in a bottle which we snapped up for 75p. It wasn't even nice, it was basically a milk bottle with a plastic boat in it.
We also "borrowed" a bottle of wine from my friends parents and bought a nice gift bag which incidentally cost more than the ship in a bottle. I do cringe a bit when I think about how tight we were. Unfortunately they got divorced after a couple of years and me and my friend always imagine that they were arguing over who got to keep this ship in a bottle......."you have it.......no, it's hideous, you have it". :rotfl::DDebt Apr 15 - £6895.44Apr 17 - £2500

When my school friends I were about 25 the first one of us got married. One of our friends gave an IOU as a wedding present which he still hasn't made good on almost 10 years later. Another of our friends got married earlier this year and instead of a wedding card he bought a retirement card that was on sale and just crossed out retirement and wrote wedding in.0

My dad told me he used to know someone that was quite well off that would hang their tea bags out so they could be re-used again, that made me giggle!!Read my diaryHere0

I own and run a cafe. I've had people come in before and as part of their meal ask for a cup of boiling water. When it came to clear them I've found fruit teas they've made themselves with the water. Is that ok? Not to me. But maybe that's seen as a perk to be had.
I don't drink caffeine & if a cafe doesn't serve fruit teas (infusions), I ask for a cup of hot water but always say charge for a tea. The vast majority of places then don't charge anyway . It's a cheek to just do it though!!SPC 8 (2015) #485 TOTAL: £334.65
