That reminds me we did something similar at a wedding but with bottles of beer. It was expensive to buy bottles so one of us went to a nearby supermarket and bought a crate of beer that they were serving at the venue. As the tablecloths were right down to the floor were just put the beers under the table and helped ourselves when needed.
Almost got caught when one of my mates was walking round with the cap still on though in a drunken state!LBM: Dec 2012 - Debt £38,180/ Now £0.

I admit I reuse tea bags (2-3 times), but only for myself. Guests always get their own.I am a Mum and I run my own PC repair business0

All my OH's moneysaving efforts are cringeworthy. You see, I was born in Yorkshire, so I know how to be careful with my money. He, on the other hand, was born in Durham and he thinks he's careful with his money but, in reality, he is a mean-spirited old miser.'Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.' George Carlin0

I remember living in a house share with 4 others years ago and we were all working full time.
We would take it in turn to prepare meals so one night I made spaghetti bolognese another night someone made a curry, etc. One night a house mate asked who would like fajitas for dinner and then after we had finished tried to charge us for the ingredients even though he had been happily eating our food free of charge for weeks.
We also had an a jar where we put money for communal things like toilet paper and milk. He never put money in the jar (although he used the things bought with the money) but I did catch him several times helping himself to money from the jar for bus fares.
OMG - didn't you say or do anything?!!!! No way would I have put up with a tightwad like that. He'd have been told to go and live elsewhere by me!0 -

When he asked for money for the dinner I told him to get himself tae !!!! and that he could knock it off the cost of my food that he had eaten. I also had words whenever I caught him with his hand in the money jar. It was a HMO where we all rented a room and I think it became so miserable for him that he left when his 6 months were up.
He was the one who never emptied the rubbish bin, only took the clean dishes he wanted to use out of the dishwasher, left dirty dishes everywhere, helped himself to other people's shower gel, shampoo, etc. I know there is a bit of give and take when sharing a house be he was take, take, take the !!!!.0 -
Do not mock the tea bag re-users
If you need to light your fire or barbecue dry out your teabags, put them in a jar with a little paraffin and you have excellent firelighters for a fraction of the shop price.
Also a good way to use up all those weird flavour ones which taste awful but people give you as a present0 -
A variation on the watering of milk. I grew up on a farm so generally we all helped each other. Once my dad was helping an elderly bachelor. When they were finished, dad was offered tea, but declined when the guy said he needed to make up some powdered milk, not that unusual, but dad drew the line when he saw him take the powder from the calves supply!A smile costs little but creates much0

Don't know if it's been mentioned but a friend once convinced me to re-use food bags like bread bags or the usual ones that come in a roll.
She washed every single one and used them over and over again.
I felt that they may not be hygienic though. Also they took forever to get thoroughly dry.
Life is too short! Now I just buy the really cheap ones and chuck them away.0 -
I've reused teabags before, because I like my tea very weak, so I could easily get three cups out of one bag. These days I only buy loose leaf tea, so I just use the amount needed to make my tea the way I like it.:o
The most cringe-worthy "money saver" I've heard of is the chap who emptied the water out of his hot-water-bottle into his kettle and boiled it up for his morning cuppa._pale_ I can only imagine he liked rubber-flavoured tea!:rotfl:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

I thought you were going to say to refill his hot water bottle in the evening not for his tea!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:My debt free diary
