Apology suggests guilt, and i would say they'd want to avoid putting that into writing to customers.

No suggestion of guilt is required. Guilt has already been accepted iand budgeted for. Surely a grovel wouldn't have gone amiss.

I hear that the changes they make if you take your car back will:
    Reduce MPG
    Reduce performance.

My opinion? Don't take it back ;)

They're correcting the problem and no doubt will be fined heavily by individual countries and governments.

Theres various ways they could play this out with customers in terms of if and when to apologise. Either way, lack of a grovelling apology at this stage has been well considered and is deliberate

I'm heading into Audi tomorrow to look at a new car for the OH.

It'll be interesting to see how they are about discounting now. She's after a S3 so I don't imaging much.

As i said at the start of the thread, the motor trade will be a good indicator of whats really happening out there, and what the impact is

Heres todays report from CAP - the people who produce one of the two big trade guides.

    http://www.am-online.com/news/used-cars/2015/10/13/vw-emissions-scandal-is-not-hurting-volumes-says-cap

"Nothard said VW values are performing in line with the market.

He said: “As expected, the market is dropping with seasonal trends. It is easy for the misinformed to look at VW in isolation, and suggest value drops are down to ‘scandal’, but when put into context, this does not appear to be the case.”"

"There also appears to be no rush from consumers to sell their Volkswagen."

"our team of experts has seen no discernible change to values."

Why would anyone sell? You might as well hang on and see what they offer you, and get the use out of it.

I just got the impression you were German, although I haven't heard that style of English since I was in Bangkok. Same same.
