Seems their petrol engines fall short of claims as well. I was reading vw's history the other night. It seems they were first called the KDFwagen, short for the slogan Kraft durch Freude - strength through joy. Kraft durch Fraud seems appropriate.

  • VW to offer cash incentives
Earlier this month, it emerged that Volkswagen would offer cash incentives of up to £1500 to existing UK customers as it tries to avert the potential sales affect caused by the emissions scandal.
Dealer correspondence leaked to Autocar shows that in response to concerns from VW’s British sales network, the company is going to top up any discounts offered to existing customers trading in a VW of any age with a further cash incentive - £400 on the Up city car, rising to £1000 on the Golf and Passat, and £1500 on the Touareg and Sharan.
The VW advice tells dealers, “This bonus is in addition to current tactical and does not impact your ability to determine the selling price of the vehicle.” It adds that the offer will last until the end of January 2016. Other vehicles eligible for a £1000 incentive include Golf SV, Cabriolet and Estate, Beetle and Beetle Cabriolet, Scirocco, Jetta, Touran, Tiguan, CC and all electric vehicles.

Would be surprised if it was "just" if you were trading in a VW, and if it isnt just VW specific, then its nothing they havent done before. Quiet time between now and the new year for all manufacturers.

This seems to mean that if you take a VW into a VW garage to buy another VW, you will get a certain amount of discount. but there will be a hue and cry from those, like myself, who want to change the car but through an independent trader. Where's my discount? Hope VW dont think they are going to get out of it that easily
I started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p

Why would you get "extra" discount from an independent dealer with no affiliation to VW?

Also, why would you get special treatment anyway?

The point I'm making is that VW are going to take a hit and give a discount... if you buy another VW. The idea is to cover any depreciation caused by the scandal. But my car value has taken a hit and surely VW will have to compensate everyone.

ps. yes my car has been devalued. I have been in a few garages looking about changing and after saying my car is on the list needing upgrade then value drops

So someone you're 'selling' your car to finds any reason they can to devalue it. Hardly surprising! Probably better to get the upgrade done and remove that uncertainty, before trading in.
Also, have a look at parkers.co.uk or Glass' guide or whatever to see what you car is worth, before getting ripped off by someone.
£2,000 off the 'list price' of a new car is nothing spectacular at all.

Is there any absolute evidence VW are doing this, or is it hearsay?

If it is actually true, it would appear that VW are trying to encourage continued brand loyalty NOT to compensate people who may rock up to some other dealers and buy a Ford.

As has been said already, its a tactic by the people you have approached. Get the work done and then look to change it, but change now and the dealers will smell blood and take advantage of your "situation"
