Saw a thing on TV the other day where a VW executive said there would be compensation for European owners
Direct compensation?
I'd Agnews phone me the other day and to "reward my loyalty" to the brand if i traded in my Golf for a new one they'd give me an extra £1,000 discount.
I thought that was the form any "compensation" was to take.
Doesnt really change things for me anyway as (a) I wouldnt buy a brand new golf as they tend to depreciate like snow off a ditch in the first few months and (b) we've a Nissan 370z and an Insignia now and no notion of changing either.0 -
No I think he was definitely talking about direct compensation. Of course that could mean a voucher for a tenners worth of fuel :-(I started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p0

Seems Porsche is ditching maria sharapova. Wouldn't do to be linked with a cheat, would it?“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0

Oh those poor little monkeys!
Something unsettling about the Germans intentionally gassing something, isn’t there?“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -
So looking back since the thread started, i wonder whos prediction came closest? Yours or mine?
I did actually put my money where my mouth was and subsequently buy a 2016 Passat TDI in 2017. Ran it for close to a year and was getting strong trade bids for it on trade in. No issues at all either buying or selling it.0 -
Well done. As long as the exhaust wasn’t where your mouth was.
I’m still in my Mondeo. Passed its test last week - hoping to take it to 300,000.
You know the Germans call us Inselaffen, which means island apes or monkeys? Any jokes (chokes) there?“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -

No car is ecologically sound. Some are more toxic than others. The latest scandal involves gassing adorable little monkeys, but who knows - maybe Fords are tested on fluffy kittens. Which is vaguely reminiscent of one of trump’s more notorious lines.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -

And given you've been driving around clocking up 300,000 miles in 8 years in yours i'd say yours falls in to the "more toxic" end of the scale.0 -
I’m only at 250,000, but as far as fuel consumption goes, yes. As for the embedded energy wastage involved in trading in for a gleaming new one every few years, zero. I’m sure I could work it out, but on balance, running the same car for many years I’d say is a lot less polluting than buying any new car. As well as a lot cheaper, which is the point of this website.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0
