For prices to drop, someone has to sell their car at below what could be considered market value. Owners are not doing that and likewise there is no lack of demand at auction for VAG diesels, as i myself have observed, and continue to observe daily.0 -
Well indeed, and why would anyone do that? It's not going to cost you anything to keep it, and you might end up with something from vw to make you feel better.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0

I think you're missing the point- Theres no evidence that owners are getting rid of their cars
- Theres no evidence that demand has dropped
- Theres no evidence traders are avoiding buying them / taking them on trade in
- Theres no evidence that VW market share has dropped
- Theres no evidence that people who are buying are avoiding diesels.
Feel free to hypothesise about why.0 -
Is there a point? As you say, there's no reason to get rid of your car because of this, and probably a good reason to keep it.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0

Yes.

Used values - let's wait. I'd still say some downward pressure. I wouldn't buy one till this settles out. I can't be the only one.
Whereas the feedback from the motor trade is that is NOT the case0 -
All right. I wouldn't buy one yet. It will all become clear eventually.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0

motorguy has quoted some actual industry data. The rest of us (and him in his other posts) are speculating.
Either - everyone will panic sell, and prices will drop OR people will hold onto their cars, and nothing will change. There are 1,798 VW diesels on usedcarsni right now. If that goes up massively, the supply/demand balance will shift and prices may drop if people actually want rid of their cars.
How anyone knows how emissions, performance and economy will be affected for each model of car after the adjustments I don't know (neither do they, they're guessing).0 -

Not me but i note from the article on Auto Express ... "when their 2005-2014 Vauxhall Zafira models unexpectedly caught fire with children and pets inside."

Clearly as long as you've no children or pets inside you should be fine.0
