  • Evening all :)

    - going into Sainsburys after work and not buying anything
    - getting into bed to keep warm instead of putting the heating on
    - buying stacks of cheap cheap bread from Asda, and 4 bunches of flowers for 35p :D
    - wearing brand new Topshop trousers for work that only cost £4.99 from the charity shop
    - catching up with friends via Facebook and saving my texts and phone bill!
  • My 5 for today are;
    1) Stood at the kitchen window with a cuppa & watching the snow falling outside.
    2) Spending quality time with hubby while ds at a party.
    3) Holding hands with my hubby instead of pushing a pram.
    4) Going shopping in Primark without a pram which is so painless! - also picked up some bargain buys.
    5) Giving my ds a huge hug once he returned from his party.

    Monday blessings...

    1. Have a streaming cold and feeling very sorry for myself cos with copd, being all bunged up doesn't make for easy breathing. DS made me a lunch of sandwiches and lemon cake, took a while to eat but I did enjoy it :D

    2. Snuggling up on the sofa under a warm throw and sleeping on and off throughout the day

    3. Had a phone call from a lovely friend in Czech Republic, telling me all about how their house building is getting on

    4. Reading that Bibbitybob rescued some flowers - I do that too, can't bear to see them all alone in the bucket so I buy and 'nuture' them, they always last about week

    5. Hearing about Kiwiblue's OH's weekend and her positive way of managing. I love apricots but can understand that they could be a little wearing after a while! I'm ashamed of myself that I'm full of self pity when I have a simple cold :o

    5. Reading all the lovely positive posts when I have little to contribute today. On the other hand being under the weather does mean I didn't use the car or go shopping for things I didn't need, so I did save something ;)

My list for Monday (which I only discovered was supposed to be the most depressing day of the year after it had passed!)

    1. Getting a whole load of work done.

    2. Chatting with friends and knitting at the same time - I had forgotton how lovely knitting was before I began these socks. I've started the heel on sock #2 now.

    3. Having an easy but HM early supper in good time for us to go out this evening with tummies feeling full.

    4. Reinforcing a worn, old, cardboard magazine file with stronger cardboard then covering it with brown wrapping paper very neatly so that it looks like the plain brown papered ones you get in Paperchase (but they cost £6.50 each). I've realised that I can cover shelf-loads of storage like this and make it look smart and matching. I need to hang on to certain resources for work at home and refreshed storage for them will cost nothing since I have a huge roll of brown paper that I uncovered in a recent declutter.

    5. Getting a new Boots Advantage card through the post and ringing up to see if I had any points on my old one that could be transferred - there were nearly £6 worth which was unexpected.

    Night night.
... and get well soon Sparrer - I think we were posting at the same time.

It's hard to find any blessings today. A friend of ours who lives on her own and who has previously bravely battled against cancer, has just been disagnosed with secondary tumours. I can't imagine the mental anguish she must be going through. .

Life can be so cruel at times, one of our elderly married neighbours died the other day and it has really worried me how he is going to cope without her, as they were so dependant on eachother. Suppose it comes to us all in one way or another eventually but it doesn't make it any easier.
Can't imagine what your poor friend must be going through.

I know this slightly OT, but...
It's never easy to deal with the illness and pain of loved ones, whoever they are. Is it worth contacting her to see if you can do anything to brighten her day or to make life easier? When I was in a similiar situation a few years ago, I sent a box full of little surprises (funny cards, freebie films/cds, make up/ bodycare samples and associated freebies) as a means of lifting her mood.and staying in contact. ( we were 200 miles apart at the time) A daily stupid joke text message also helped.
On a more practical level what about seeing if you can fill her freezer with HM ready meals? I did that for my parents last year while Mum was having heart surgery, so that Dad wouldn't have to do much when she came home.
If you focus on what you can change, it can make things feel just a little more bearable.
Make sure that you've got someone to talk to so that you can deal with the pain that you're so clearly feeling.
    Take care, D. :A <<<<hugs>>>>>>

Hope you are feeling better today sparrer - I can sympathise I've got what the pharmacist called a "productive" cough, I'm all about the honey and lemon at the moment.
Primrose sometimes things just seem so unfair don't they. I hope you are feeling better and that your friend is still managing to keep strong. We lost a very close friend last year, she was diagnosed when pregnant and I did a whole world of raging against the universe. anyway big (((hugs))) to you.

    On with the blessings
    1) Speaking to one of my best friends on the phone and hearing the gurgling noises of her new son - in the light of what I just posted it seems like even more of a joy! :D
    2) HM veggie curry last night to blast my nasty lurgy - seems to have worked
    3) Watching the snow fall on the valley and being excited like a small child:j
    4) Bit of a daft one - but the satisfaction of clearing all the gunk from the shower so it will drain, all with soda crystals and stardrops, before I would probably have used nasty chemicals.
    5) Honey and lemon - the only thing that stops my cough!

Take care, blessings to all xx

I am feeling really tired, I had a bad day at work. I am so glad to be home. Participating in this thread keeps me positive. So here goes...

    1) Took HM aubergine soup to work today.
    2) Enjoyed walking into my decluttered kitchen and living room after work.
    3) Made my list for the market tomorrow
    4) Started checking recipes for my meal plan next week
    5) After dinner I plan to watch Obama's speech. I hope it's uplifting!
