    3. Two large celeriac bulbs dug up and soaking so more freebe veggies to use next week
    4. Oxtail caserole simmering on the gas hob using my new Lakeland purchased simmer mat to stop food burning on the base of pot. (cheaper than using oven for 3 hours).

Primrose do those simmer mats really work? They sound like a good idea.

  • I love this thread, but I'm really struggling to find 5 pleasures a week at the moment let alone a day. Still I must try harder, as it makes me feel better if I do manage it.
    1) Hubby telling me how jealous his workmates are of his homemade food
    2) Hubby having a few weeks work, long may it continue
    3) Mastered a turned heel on a pair of socks I'm knitting
    4) Kind comments people have left on my blog
    5) Finally getting hold of £50 that has been sat in an old account (it's taken 4 years)
    6) Reading & thouroughly enjoying Nella Last's War & Nella Last's Peace
    7) Finding a Val McDairmid book I haven't read in the local charity shop.

There that's one a day for this week.

Stick with it Hester or if you are finding it too hard just read. It really does have a good mood enhancing effect. I know that I have very hard days and to do this exercise or just to read makes me see the good in the world. I am not the first to say it and I won't be the last but this thread really gets me through.

    Hugs..

I haven't seen any lambs in the fields, but now I know it's possible I shall certainly be looking. I haven't walked the hills and seen the views but I can rejoice with those of you who have.

I should have added watching Vicorian Farm on my laptop to my pleasures for yesterday so I shall have to sneak it in today.

    1. Watching Victorian Farm, what a lovely programme, I've been to that farm too, so that made it extra special in my eyes.

    2. Going to a card making demo this morning and picking up hints and tips.

    3. Having £25 to spend which had accrued on the loyalty scheme at the craft shop. OK, I had spent quite a lot of money to earn it but that was in the days before my belt was well and truly tightened. Now I can only spend what I earn on cards so that £25 was a real bonus.

    4. 20% off at the craft shop too, so my money went further.

    5. DH ordering growing bags for early potatoes, online. We decided to invest in these as a spend to save project even though it will make this year's potatoes somewhat expensive. Mind you when one considers the price of a pound of Jersey Mids it doesn't seem so bad.

    Bella.

    1. Waking up to rain and wind and feeling really down but the the sun came out and it felt like spring
    2. Getting some real excercise by lugging around and chopping up the free firewood I was given. We've only had to buy fuel once in 18 months as we get gifted it often or exchange it for baking or chores and i really appreciate this load of wood
    3. Seeing my dogs health improve further now he's on homemade food
    4. Finally finding a light fitting that we both like and it being in the sale (18 months of a bare lonely bulb!)
    5. Having a weeks worth of meals planned and feeling in control of the freezer for the first time in a month or two

    Hello all

    Here's some of mine..

    1. DH making some marmalade tonight. It is lined up on the worktop looking golden and lovely.

    2. Taking some of said marmalade to my grandma tomorrow (she usually makes it for us, but she's poorly at the moment so it will be nice to return the favour.

    3. DD writing her thankyou notes for her Christmas presents, without too much fuss..

    4. Lovely dinner of grilled salmon, stir fry, and champ made with leeks, with DH and DD

    5. Coffee, magazines and newspapers in warm local cafe this afternoon with family (including a free coffee from my loyalty card).

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm finding that I notice things in the day where I think 'oh, I'll put that on my 'five things' list tonight. This thread is making me consciously more observant about what is lovely in my life. Anyway, five things for a very OS day today...

    1. Waking up to sunshine and a clear blue sky.

    2. Getting three loads of washing done and dry on the line.

    3. The eleven year old I have been tutoring in maths coming round for a lesson and making me laugh lots.

    4. Getting on with the second sock while watching some of a film on telly this afternoon.

    5. Doing masses of cooking. I've made cauli cheese with mash and veg (which we had for supper tonight), leek and celeriac soup for tomorrow's lunch, quorn shepherd's pie for tomorrow night, enough mash left over to make fish cakes on Monday lunchtime, and quorn mince bolognese sauce to have with pasta on Monday night. We have a spare soup for the freezer and a good pot of stock for the freezer too. I've also made a banana cake, an apple crumble and orange curd and I'm feeling very pleased with myself! :D

    Sweet dreams.
