Five OS Pleasures in your day today

:hello: Hello everybody,
My 5 pleasures (over 2 days)
1. Going to the Library, got a knitting book, a quilting book, a cake decorating book and a Nigella Lawson cookery book. No doubt I won’t do any but I like looking at the pictures and imagining what I could make.
Hi bluenose1 - I do this alot too, always come away with at least 3 books but of those 3 will probably only read 1, I think I do it just so I can get my 'book fix', it must be saving me a fortune :rotfl:
My Five OS pleasures for the last couple of days are:-
1) I have come across a couple of blogs so am catching up with those and am really enjoying reading them.
2) Went swimming for the first time in absolutley ages, only managed about 35 lengths in total but I was in the water for an hour and did exercises inbetween to keep me moving.
3) Going in the hot tub as well yesterday all for the same price.
4) Having roast chicken for tea yesterday, first time in 3 months, it was gorgeous, definatley going to make another meal out of the leftovers so I can justify the cost.
5) My fruit and veg box came yesterday, I just love receiving this each week, it's like christmas day every week.
It's great to read everybody elses posts as some remind me of things I've seen or done in the past and taken enjoyment from but don't see or do anymore. Have taken enjoyment from seeing a kingfisher and playful foxes, and would love to see some turtle doves courting.

Oooh, Newlywed, can we please have your recipe for butterbean soup, sounds gorgeous!!!
Sorry just seen this!
It's a good food one and a bit of faff coz it involves soaking dried butter beans and then de-shelling them!!!
.... here you go: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1448/judys-white-bean-soup-with-chilli-oil
Except I added a bit of dried chilli as I didn't have chilli oilworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
going be hard as feeling very stressed with uni work why did i want to study at masters level!!
1. completed one learning outcome out of 7 today and 4 out of the remaining 6 are almost there. (do have to do a 3,000 word conclusion yet though!!)
2. getting an organic hamper from tesco direct for under £17 delievered
3. abel and cole delivery coming today so lots of yummy food for the weekend now in fridge
4. spending some time with my rabbits today before it got dark (usually get home at 4.30pm and its getting dark then)
5. easy dinner of jacket spuds0 -
Mine today
1. Joining the 5000 people who have already signed up to become a 'beneficial owner' of the small plot of land which Greenpeace have bought slap bang in the middle of the proposed area for the third Healthrow runway to try and stop it being built. (www.greenpeace.org.uk). I hate the thought of two villages being flattened and so many people losing their homes and futures for such a ruinous environmental project.
Well Primrose, thanks for this, please don't mind if I make it one of the pleasures for my day too. Just signed up and sent email to friends and acquaintances!
Anyway, not been around yesterday because I was soooo busy, here are six pleasures from yesterday:
1 - First thing in the morning I boiled up a large pan of haricot beans, which in the evening were turned into a pan of very professional-looking, very authentic-tasting baked beans!
2 - After boiling the beans I put a load of seville oranges and two lemons in the pressure cooker, the result of which was, in the same evening, turned into 10 jars of a bit runny but utterly delicious marmalade (which included the last of DH's whiskey, much to his chagrin when he came back home - he consoled himself with a slice of marmalade on toast :rotfl: )
3 - After my trip to the PO Box, where I met a neighbour, we decided to go for a cup of tea and a nice piece of fruit cake (at the Age Exchange centre, so it was not only super-cheap but also HM and delicious!).
4 - Shiatsu massage at home done by a lovely Czech student, who travels into London once a month to finish her Shiatsu course and needs a case study - I am that - and charges a very cheap rate because she is not a graduate yet.
5 - My great knitting friend came to visit me and had dinner here and gave me great moral support while I was cooking beans and marmalade (as per 1 - and 2 - above). We must have had at least a dozen tasters each!
6 - Said friend also brought me a jar of her super-scrumptious date and ginger pickle and we had it on oatcakes with cheese (and agreed that cheese is the garnish, really, but we had to have LOADS of the pickle!)
Today:
1 - Long-ish lie-in reading more of Nella Last's war - actually feeling ok because she had a cleaner weekly, even being so frugal and I have one fortnightly so it cannot be all that bad!
2 - DH and the twins loved the baked beans!
3 - DD brought me breakfast in bed, how luxurious is that, during the week! Tea and a slice of buttered marmalade toast YUMMY!
4 - Pairing up all the socks, which is a soul-destroying business, but how wonderful to not have to see the pile of socks on the chair in the bedroom! A pleasure in itself.
5 - Adding water and stock powder to the sauce that remained at the bottom of the pan, DD and I made a soup also using some leftover pasta and broccoli that I had defrosted for this purpose.
6 - Visiting my friend with a jar each of marmalade and beans (she kindly provided the black treacle for the beans) and sitting there for a little while, drinking tea and gossiping a little. Then she gave me a bag full of pieces of wood for the fire, that her DH had trimmed off some work he was doing around the house.
I am sure that there are many more pleasures in my life than the ones I report here, and I am a happy woman and feeling thoroughly grateful for my life, family and all that I have.
Have a good evening, all!

For future reference the programme is repeated on Saturdays, this week its 6:30pm - 7:30pm on BBC2 but I suspect the times may differ week to week.
BBC2... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
