I can't think of five for today but i certainly can think of one. I made some thank you cards for my children to write in to thank all the kind people who bought them Christmas presents. Both kids have had exams since returning back to school so i know they have been short on time to make the cards, but they will have to write in them :-)

    Hi all

Sparrer, I am delighted for your good news, hope you can build a loving relationship with your granddaughter and get to know the little boy well!

Missed yesterday, but I had a very nice one for yesterday which was: at the craft class I made myself a pair of felt insoles to put in the shoes and insulate my feet from the cold ground. They are double-layered purple felt, zigzag stitched in pink and very nice, and they work well against the cold, too!

Kiwiblue, you have a walk-in pantry? WOW! Is it like the walk-in clothes wardrobe in Sex and the City? (I would rather have a walk-in pantry than a clothes wardrobe, anytime!)

Here are my five for today:

1 - Early waking as DH needed to go out early so I stayed in bed reading more of Nella Last's War - really enjoying this book!

2 - Went to the nutritional therapist and I though she would scold me badly for all my cake eating but she said it is not so bad and she is allowing me the odd bit of dark (70%+) chocolate if I get bad sugar cravings AND once per week, 1 slice of HM fruit cake that I get at the Blackheath cafe! Hey, good news or what!

3 - Bought the turkish seeded bread that DS loves so much and he was very pleased and had a piece with hummus before going to college. I always love making him happy!

4 - Leftover rice and dal turned into a soup for lunch, spiced up by a big handful of fresh chopped parsley (also bought at the Turkish shop)

5 - DD texted me to say hi as she stayed at her BF overnight last night. I love when my kids let me know they love me, it is the best feeling in the world (apart from loving them myself that is!).

Work now, have a nice evening and night everybody!

    Edited to say:

6 - Just got an email from The Book People: the Victorian Farm book has just been shipped, so I am now really looking forward to receiving it. What a good day!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    1. Having a lie in today, only until 8.00am but for me that's a long lie in.

    2. DH has sold 39 of my hand crafted cards at work this week, that's £39 for the kitty:T :T :T

    3. Having the windows open this morning to get rid of the condensation and the lovely sun made the front of the house quite warm. Was chilly this afternoon though.

    4. Making cards all afternoon, got to make hay while the sun shines as DH retires soon and my outlet will dry up.

    5. Red cabbage cooked in the slow cooker was yum and I have enough to freeze away to serve to visitors at the end of the month so...., with a 65pence red cabbage I have made four servings of winter salad and at least six servings of braised red cabbage. Feel chuffed with that.

  • Good morning all
Primrose - thanks for your kind words - I know each season has its own blessings, but mid summer is so special here. My one and only visit to the UK has left me with fond memories of warm Autumns, would have loved to be there in the snow, but was not to be.
The doom sayers are also in overdrive here, but I have decided to ignore them and get on with what's really important.
Caterina- the walk in pantry is huge, have had builders in the house for months building it and the new bathroom, the downside was all those empty shelves reproaching me, can't stand to see so much emptiness. We live miles from any shop, and tend to have lots of guests stay, so I need to keep good stocks in.
    Anyway my five.

    1. A good nights sleep for both OH and me - first time in ages.

    2. DM (87) spent yesterday at the hospital undergoing eye treatment and was told that her eyesight is improving.

    3. Phone call this am from DS1 to hear that he will be bringing his lovely wife and son for a visit next week.

    4. Its a beautiful sunny day.

    5. OH has booked a game fishing trip with some mates. Its great to see him gathering back the threads of hhis life.

    Blessings be
    Jennie
