    Evening, my things today are:

    * cooking a roast dinner for 2 without any panic or prepared/ pre-cooked veg/ meat etc etc

    * baking a cake and it working out just fine

    * saving my empty glass jars for my mum to refill with her totally fab apricot jam!

    * popping lamb stew into freezer bags for another time Mr CG is around and needs feeding

    * staying in and not spending money on stuff that I don't need
Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.
  • My OS pleasures are for the weekend, but very pleasurable none the less.

    1. Seeing the trees and ground look beautiful and white and sparkly yesterday in the frost that lasted all day, but feeling warm and toastie in my hoodie, gloves, scarf and hat.

    2. Making a packed lunch of leftovers yesterday and realising that it tasted far better than anything I could have bought at work.

    3. Enjoying a delicious lie in (albeit without any breakfast in bed)

    4. Snuggling up to a hot water bottle last night while OH was at work

    5. Enjoying the last of my banana bread today with a cup of free coffee from my new coffee machine, and realising I have some more bananas to make another loaf tomorrow when I have the oven on.

  • Mine are:

    1) Spending quality time with family and delighting in their peals of laughter.

    2) Went to town and didn't buy anything but two punnets of raspberries and a punnet of blueberries.

    3) Spent some time devising a savings plan for this year, and made a note on the calendar of all the major bills due. Am organized for once!

    4) Have sorted out a subscription to a magazine, instead of buying it each week.

    5) Really appreciating the taste of the raspberries and blueberries, and feeling good about eating healthy food.

    Have a lovely evening, all.

A very busy day for me today, but I have so enjoyed it.

    1. Seeing Dh take the bathroom tiles I have hated for almost 30 years to the tip - new bathroom is finally going to be a reality!

    2. Changing our bed - I love the first night climbing in to crisp clean sheets.

    3. Starting to knit a scarf with some wool I had forgotten I had bought - thats another present sorted!

    4. Doing a big batch of baking for the week as well as making 2 big pans of soup, a quiche for tomorrow and a blackberry and apple crumble with fruit I picked last year.

    5. Sitting down with a cup of tea feeling very pleased with myself!!
  • First time posting on this thread, but have been reading OS for quite a while :)

    1. Using the dough function for the first time on the breadmaker I got as a present for Christmas and making enough bread rolls for the week for the kids lunchboxes (freezing those I won't use straightaway)

    2. Making 'millionaires shortbread' for the first time and despite the caramel not setting properly the kids loving it

    3. Making veg soup for my lunches for work, and a pasta bake for DH's lunches for work and freezing

    4. Clearing out my kitchen cupboards and reorganising them to make better use of space

    5. Listing a tonne more books on Amazon, to add to the holiday spending money fund for our camping holl in the summer.

    Sunday blessings...

    1. Phoned DM to tell her I booked a midweek hol in June in Sussex, she was over the moon! Decided I'll give it to her as her b/day pressie (it's the day before we go) she argued just enough then withdrew before I changed my mind ;)

    2. Stretched a turkey drumstick for 3 for dinner with leeks in cheesy sauce. Threw all the sauce ingredients in a bowl and made it in the mw, it had no lumps at all unlike when I do it in a pan

    3. Spent the evening gathering up papers from all over the house (how do they all get so scattered?) and filed them all. Also shredded loads of old papers and gave the shreds to a neighbour who has puppies - well her dog has :rotfl:

    4. Made £8 just by joining a dvd site - when the 1st one is watched and sent back I cancel the sub and bank the £'s :)

    5. Invited for a comparison trial for baby clothes, they'll be perfect for step-GS's little girl's b/day :shhh:

Very late with this tonight.... oh well, here's five for Sunday:

1: Realising that I will end this week with some money left over in my purse which means that we have been living within the housekeeping budget. I am paying for everything in cash this year so leftover money is 'profit'.

    2. Having a happy visit to my parents.

    3. Watching the programme about 'swarms' on the telly tonight - isn't the wildlife that we share the planet with amazing?!

    4. Making a very good French onion soup at lunchtime - my own recipe, simple, fast and a real winner (well I like it :D )

    5. Cuddling my DS(14) to sleep tonight and it still feeling like it did when he was a baby.

    Sweet dreams. x

Ohhh Broomstick, I remember this, when DS was still young enough that he could be held just like a baby and cuddled to sleep - now he is big and no longer does want cuddles I miss it soooo much! (But it is good to see him so grown up and independent of course!)

DD, on the other hand, is the cuddliest creature on earth, so I can consider myself lucky that I still have one of the "babies" to cuddle. DS "lets me" give him a peck on the cheek when he is in a good mood  but is otherwise very distant in his physical manifestations of affection.

Note that these are nearly 20 year old twins I am talking about! :rotfl:

Anyway, here are my five for the day:

1 - HM blackberry jam from the last of my friend's jars - lovely and now that I no longer have any HM stock I shall be inspired to make marmalade with the oranges sitting on my kitchen counter and calling my name

2 - Keep fit class, after so long it knackered me but I feel so well, and virtuous!

3 - Healthy salad and ricotta lunch.

4 - Undid all the goodness of the healthy lunch by meeting with a friend in Blackheath and eating the fav Age Exchange HM fruit cake!

5 - Just received an email for a half price theatre show (comedy) and booked two tickets for DH and me. I had been waiting for a long time for a comedy that looks appealing to come up and now it did, and relatively cheap too! Of course we will make it an evening of it by using the Carluccio 241 main meal vouchers!

Still got a lot of minutes to type for work, so in a while there will be a 6th OS pleasure, the fact that I will have FINISHED the blasted minutes for this month's meeting! At long last! Off I go to work now, good night all!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Morning all
    My five for today are:

    1. Making apricot jam from the prolific crop of apricots.

    2. Bottling apricots, starting to build up a good stock of preserves.

    3. The plums are now ready, so bottled a couple of jars of those as well.

    4. Checking the rest of the orchard and realising that I am going to be extremely busy for the next few weeks.

    5. Beautiful warm sunny day today, anticipating a swim when the pool warms up.

    Blessed be

  • 1. The rain just stopped for long enough for me to walk to the library.

    2. Very interesting talk in the library by a man who has written books on local walks. A free cup of coffee and choccy biccy in the library too.

    3. Borrowing from the library one of the said books even though he had them on sale. I will have a good look first before I decide to buy - if ever.

    4. Picking up twiggy branches on the way home which had kindly been brought down by the wind. They will make excellent pea sticks later in the year.

    5. The daffodil bulbs which I rescued from my dustbin and planted up in a pot for my kitchen windowsil are now in bud. A lovely reminder that spring is on the way.
