Five OS Pleasures in your day today

  • Evening all, I hope everyone's been having good days

    - emptying the ironing basket...it was overflowing before I started
    - cleaning and re-organising my kitchen, including cleaning the fridge which I'd put off for too long
    - making HM veggie beef stew
    - buying all my veg from the local market
    - buying cheap things in the sales to repurpose into replicas of expensive things

1 - Breakfast at Cafe Rouge with DD (the OS part is that I had promised her an outing for a long time and breakfast is a lot cheaper than dinner, and I used the 50% off voucher!). We had a lovely time.

2 - Walking back home with DD in the glorious (even if freezing) sunny day, passing the frozen pond and crossing the heath, stopping to face the sun, taking off our specs so that the sunshine could fill our closed eyes through our eyelids (a good way to get Vit. D in the system, but also a lot of fun!).

Ooh, I don't suppose that was Cafe Rouge in Highgate was it? It's the walking past the frozen pond and crossing the heath that's made me put that connection together!
  • My OS pleasures for today (well, for yesterday - I should be in bed by now!):

    1) I went to town for some fresh air at lunchtime, and was really rather pleased with myself, as I went into Zavvi and despite seeing lots of dvds at sale prices, which I would've snapped up years ago without thinking twice, I looked and didn't buy anything! Was thinking "Nah, I can do without that. And that. And that". :D

    2) I was pleased because my other half was pleased when I mentioned that we've managed to pay off a big chunk off of our debts, through good old fashioned budgeting.

    3) Spent a very happy time looking through photo albums of the family. Amazing how quickly my niece and nephew are growing up......... awwww....they were cute then and they still are!

    4) Am looking forward to spending time with my niece and nephew later today (I will go to bed in a minute, lol).

    5) Have just realised that so far this week, I have been sticking to eating lots of fruit, instead of junk. :j

    Have a good Saturday, all.
  • Mine for yesterday were:

    1) Taking DS to the free playcentre with some of his friends for his birthday. Spent £1.10 on a coffee, instead of loads on arranging an actual party there.

    2) Watching DS face as he wobbled across the living room - he's just learning to walk

    3) Having half an hour in bed to read my library book (I'm really enjoying it)

    4) Chatting to my sister on the phone using up my free minutes (she's lived abroad for a year and it's lovely to have her back)

    5) Realising that even though we're overdrawn again this month it's going to be less than last month, so we're sorting ourselves out slowly
    Debts May 09 [strike]£100 Od[/strike], [strike]£1550 boiler[/strike], [strike]£1750[/strike] £400 credit card  Goal - to 3k of savings by Oct 2009 in time for Baby num 2 :j Total so far £1200
  • Yesterday

    1) Making 13 jars of marmalade. There is nothing, nothing more satisfying than producing a batch of preserves. They are sitting on my garage shelves glowing:)

    2) Taking 4 loaves of bread out of the oven -always gives me a buzz. Did you know they make a noise while they cool down?- they crackle.

    3) Getting some free old-style exercise (no not that sort:naughty::p ) by going for a walk. There are lots of pretty footpaths where I live. I have a one mile loop worked out which I'm trying to do everyday.

    4) Potato, bacon and onion hotpot for tea followed by chocolate concrete from my new 'School Dinners' book.

    5) Getting into a freshly made bed- Friday's the day I change our bed and I look forward to getting in it all day:)

No it was Blackheath, SE3, opposite side of London from Highgate! :D

Here are my five for today!

1 - A luxurious morning in a posh spa of a posh gym, free courtesy of last month's Zest magazine (and for tomorrow too, as the pass is valid for 2 days!)

2 - Started reading Nella Last's War, which I found in the library

3 - Meeting with a friend who I hadn't seen for a while as she had moved out of London

4 - Having a very nice smoked salmon salad with above-mentioned friend and another (local) friend too.

5 - Going to another friend's house to share food (I am bringing salad bits) and watch DVD, not sure which one, but it will be interesting (and edifying, knowing my friend! hehehe)

    Good night, all!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    My 5 for today:

    1. Enjoying a cuppa in bed reading a subscription magazine which arrived last week - I saved it especially for today as I knew I would have time to savour it!

    2. Making a birthday card for a friend - resisted the urge to just go and buy one.

    3. Sitting in my warm and snug craft room listening to 'The Armed Man' without interruption.

    4. Catching up with a close friend on the phone - we live too far apart to get to meet up regularly.

    5. Planning all my intended papercraft, cross stitch and knitting projects for birthdays and Christmas 2009.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone.
  • Mine for today:
    1. Watching a robin in the garden with the brightest red breast I've seen in a while. He's the first I've seen here so I'm very :D . I hope he permanently adopts us.
    2. Seeing my doggy feeling a lot better now he's not fed on commercial dog food and the butcher promising me lots of free bones for him next weekend.
    3. Watching films on tv in front of the fire under a HM blanket
    4. OS tea tonght from the store cupboard that MrS is going to prepare
    5. Having my laptop fixed and being back on here!

Hello all. Here's mine for the last few days..

    1. Enjoying a lovely meal my DS cooked tonight from the children's cookbook he got for Xmas. He's 9 so it is the first meal he has cooked (his dad helped him). HM burgers, greek salad and banana splits.

    2. Looking forward to the spicy chicken and rice he is cooking for us tomorrow.

    3. Long chat with dear friend who is living abroad at the moment, and arranging to meet up in the summer.

    4. Thinking about what seeds to order, and imagining veg growing in the garden in a few months' time, instead of the permafrost we seem to have had for weeks now.

    5. DH and DS tidying and hoovering the bedrooms whilst DD and I were out this morning.
  • Got my bike back from the repair shop. Had tried to fix it myself but failed horribly - the man said he gives my efforts 7/10 though which ent bad considering i didnt have a clue what i was doing.

Amzing, amzing frosty landscapes this morning

Did a really frugal supermarket shop and didn't buy lots of nonsense I don't need

Looking through old photos of my home town

    Made some birthday cards
    August grocery challenge: £50
    Spent so far: £37.40 :A
