Five OS Pleasures in your day today

Comments

  • 1 - I planned all my meals for six weeks and tied it in with baking for friends birthdays - ie if I needed eggs for a birthday cake, I've made sure there are enough egg meals that week to use up the rest of them, etc. I'm not normally this organised so feel quite proud. :)

2 - playing in the snow

3 - got given some pineapple at work, I'm so frugal these days that the littlest freebies seem fantastic so I was really pleased.

4 - digging for 4 horus in the frozen solid ground, I really felt like I'd earned my lunch afterwards!

5 - still really enjoying my new fluffy blanket. so warm!

5, enjoying my day off work even though all i seemed to do is cook and wash
    - prior planning prevents poor performance!

Here are my 5 for today:

    1. Waking up early and reading a chapter of the book I am engrossed in with a cup of tea in bed.

    2. playing with 10 month old grandaughter whilst DD went for a run (crazy woman)

    3. HM vegetable soup for lunch.

    4. Spending an hour at the library.

    5. Buying some mohair wool at less than half price to knit a scarf for a friends daughter.

    My five:

    1. Another chunk of sock #1 knitted. Am doing the foot now.

    2. Having HM soup for lunch and HM fishcakes for supper.

    3. Listening to DS1 talk about his day when he got home this afternoon. He does a volunteer job on Wednesdays.

    4. Snuggling and chatting in the back of the car this evening with DS2 under a duvet (and with a hottie and coats and hats and scarves!) while we waited for DS1 to come out of his evening class.

    5. Facing complaints from a starving DS2 when we got home, I remembered cinnamon toast which he hadn't had before. I'm wheat free at the moment so couldn't have any but just the smell was fabulous and we've now discovered a new treat for the children.

Thank you everyone for your posts. I love this thread - it grounds me in what is important and real.

    Good evening. Here are mine..

    1. Getting a top for £3 in the end of sale at Dorothy Perkins

    2. Buying half price wrapping paper, Xmas cards and crackers, all from Oxfam. They can sit in the loft until December.

    3. My friend buying me a cake and giving it to me when we collected our kids from school

    4. A game of charades with my DH and children before bed. My daughter's impression of a turkey had us in stitches..we thought she was being a gorilla!

    5. A conversation with a very kind and sensible man at the local hospital transport service who helped me to sort out a problem taking my elderly grandma to a appointment hospital tomorrow.

My Five OS pleasures for the last couple of days:-

    1) Defrosting soup for lunch that my daughter had previously brought home from work - so no cost.

    2) Defrosting homemade chilli for tea that had been bulked out with lentils and grated carrot - so little cost and an entire no-cook day.

    3) Receiving a really long e-mail from a friend who described her day in minute detail so I was able to place myself in her world.

    4) Washing plastic bags out and drying them on the airer to re-use - I love being such a penny pincher.

    5) Have done my weekly shop and hardly spent anything and know that I don't need to go into town until NEXT Thursday.

My best wishes to all who are feeling under parr (sp?).

    6) Caterina - your description of the birth and the walk in the snow gave me goose-bumps so you're my 6th pleasure cos it was so humbling.

    Wednesday blessings...

    1. Cut all the Christmas cards down into mini cards/scrolls/gift tags...all done and ready for the next time

    2. Hm bread and whoopsied pate for lunch, made the bread with olive oil instead of the usual butter and it seems a much lighter texture

    3. Seeing some green through the snow, it's melting slowly thank goodness. (with apologies to all the snow lovers, can't stand the stuff meself :p ). The daffodils and crocuses are making a brave effort against the cold and like vixtress my garlic is also coming on nicely

    4. Feeling a bit off-ish this afternoon for no reason I can put my finger on, then lovely neighbour send her wee sprog round to invite me for a cuppa...I swear she's psychic

    5. Have managed to empty 2 freezer drawers in prep for the 'big thaw'. It's ancient and feezes solid behind the back panel so I have to dismantle the whole thing about three times a year, and it takes for ever to defrost. Perhaps I shouldn't have spent the money on that laptop, but...:o

Kerfuffle, thank you so much for your lovely words! You might be pleased to know that they really made my morning: I just came here for a little surf before going to do all my daily tasks, and feeling really down in the dumps, but your post really put a smile on my face!

Will be back later for my daily five.

    I love this thread!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Today's pleasures:
    1. Another two bags of decluttering stuff over to the Charity shop. My heart lightens
every day that I'm able to divest myself of a little more stuff, especially if
somebody else can make use of it.
    2. Second day of home-made minestrone soup. This costs pennies from our free
chicken stock bones and I get a real kick out of "beating the system" when our
    savings are being so squeezed.
    3. Nice catch-up chat with acquaintance whilst out shopping.
    4. Two more bags removed from freezer today. (Our freezer is beginning to feel like
the parable of the Loaves & Fishes. No matter how much we take out of it, it still
seems to be as crammed as ever :rotfl:
    5. Watching all the birds and squirrels coming to be fed. Our small garden resembles
a mini wildlife park (but you can bet your last dollar that on Birdwatch week-end
(Jan 25th), every last bird will have disappeared just as we want to count it!)

    Today's pleasures so far

1.hot mugs of tea and the rest of the cheap sausages with some of my HM cranberry and orange preserve with port in.

    2. Having to take my thermal vest off cos it's too hot for it.

    3. Chalky on Rick Steins programme taped from last night

    4. Cadburys Irish Cream cake bar left over from Christmas

    5. Reading the last ever issue of Eve Magazine from my Xmas Mag stash (I always get a big pile of mags to read during the boring xmas hols - mostly the thick November issues. These last me til Feb as the January ones are usually as thin as an after eight and with less to read )

    6. making HM shrimp and Wild Rice soup - the recipe said to add half and half which is like semi skimmed milk but I only put it on some of it I separated into another pan and the rest seems so much nicer without it and will be frozen/used up later and in the next few days.Slung some curly kale in the one with milk in - god knows what that one will be like...

    7. My competion win Married With Children box set on dvd and 2 samples of kitchen cleaner

    8. leftover brown pasta and sausage fried with fennel seeds for lunch cold

    9. putting some nail varnish remover in an old polish to make it last longer
