    Today's pleasures
    1. Waking up to find snow on the ground and knowing we no longer had to join the
rest of the nation in the dreary post-holiday trek back to work.
    2. Making HM leek & potato soup from our own leeks (which were quite a
struggle to dig up out of the frozen ground).
    3. OH making four batches of two varieties of marmalade in the microwave.
(Twenty pots in total. Enough to keep us going for years !)
    4. Settling for a nice early night with a good book.

    Today's Blessings

    1. My very yummy cheapy tea - 1/4 small jar of Tomato and Marscapone Sauce (25p/£1), 5 Mushrooms chopped (22p/85p), 1/4 Red Pepper chopped 18p/70p), Rice (Max 10p). This made enough for a full tea (and so full I didnt even fancy a nibble for afters!) and a full lunch for tomorrow at work. I know it's not the cheapest but I fancied a treat and was very impressed that even as a treat it's just 38p a meal!

    2. Enjoying my office/spare room after changing it about so that it's more heat efficient.

    3. Spending time with a nice glass of apple jiuce and the cat (after I'd realised I'd run out of milk and rather than buy an emergency pint, I tohught I'd have a nice juice and wait for MIlkman Rob to call in th emorning and *really* enjoy my breakfast cuppa.

    4. Waiting until today so that I could get the calendar I'd wanted for 1/2 price as I had not got a big one for Christmas.

    5. About to suggle up in bed with my cat, my hottie and the first of my Christmas books.

    1. Have finally put my Christmas pressies away - my bathroom stock is looking very good indeed with enough shower gels/body lotions etc to keep me going for months :D.
    2. Two new books on the bedside cabinet - Cliff's autobiography (from DD) and a book of Leonard Cohen poetry (from OH).
    3. Boxes of choccies (2 Thorntons Continental and 2 M&S) buried deep inside the freezer - to accompany said book-reading sessions :D.
    4. Two bottles of wine in fridge (presents from people I work with) and OH doesn't drink - hic!
    5. Phone call from cousin in USA for a lovely long chat - so strange that we were both at the same stage of stripping our christmas tree at the same time and were left looking a bare tree with just twinkling lights on - talk about ESP !
    6. The look on the cat's face when he realised that 'his pouffee' was now back in it's rightful place (middle of bay window to catch the sunshine) after the Christmas Tree had been packed away!
    7. Getting photos of dgk's back in their usual places on the window ledge - I DO love Christmas but I also love to see my home 'get back to normal' (whatever that is!) once again.
    8. Took delivery of my new office chair today (for work purposes) - what blissful comfort :D. Makes a change from the old wooden-seated dining chair that's usually in my office :(.
    9. Used up some left-over celery to make a batch of Celery Soup - invented the recipe as I went along and have been very pleasantly surprised. Will do for lunch tomorrow.

    My five for today...

    1. Yay! I've reached the heel turning bit on sock #1 and it's still going well.

    2. Walking through sparsely peopled streets this evening in the crisp, cold, night air and remembering that our, normally hectic and crowded, tourist city still manages to have moments when it is quiet and calm and quite magical.

    3. Discovering that yesterday's soup tastes even better warmed up the next day - I think I've invented a new freezer recipe!

    4. Spending big chunks of time with the children today talking about what they wanted to talk about and taking their ideas and plans very seriously.

    5. Realising that I'm slowing up and cherishing little moments more in our increasingly less-cluttered lives.

    Monday blessings...

    1. Opening the curtains to see a fall of snow and knowing I was warm, dry and cosy indoors

    2. Enjoyed watching children playing in the square - they asked if they could clear my car of snow which went towards their snowman :snow_grin

    3. Had a visit from a friend I hadn't seen for 18 months and did a lot of catching up (chattering  )

    4. Started to take down the dec's but the tree doesn't get done til tomorrow (12th night) though. Sad to see it all packed into its box but lovely to think I can start working towards OS money saving for next Christmas

    5. Spent what started to be a quiet evening evening with friends, which ended up being a riot of laughter. Drove home on a real high :D

    Hello all!

    My five for the day:

1 - A nice lie-in with my new Prima magazine (3 for £1 of course!)

2 - Lunch of rice and peas soup made with leftover rice, this is a regular comfort food for cold days, and so simple to make!

3 - Walking in the sunshine with DS to the shops

4 - Received my Goodness direct parcel and made muesli for DH using their muesli base and adding all the other fancy bits and pieces myself (works out so much cheaper!)

5 - DS being so pleasant today and bringing me a cup of roiboosch tea upstairs.

    Good night all!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    1. Waking to this morning's freezing temperatures and glad to have a roof over my
    head.
    2. Discovered OH had got up early and stacked away the 20 jars of marmalade
made yesterday, with old stock nicely placed at the front for easy access.
    3. By wearing several layers of clothing, despite below zero temp outside, we
managed until 3 p.m. without switching the heating back on.
    4. A no-buy-food day. 3 items used up from the freezer today.
    5. Re-reading all the newsy Christmas letters received from friends.

    1. Having a nice warm bed through such a cold, cold night.

    2. Meeting a couple of friends and DD for coffee.

    3. Not finding anything to buy in the relics of the sales and hence have still got my money.

    4. Making toad in the hole with a yellow stickered pack of sausages.

    5. Having two sausages left over for DH's packed lunch tomorrow.

Hmm I was a bit lax yesterday as I spent most of it for an interview for a job i didn't get! So here are today's pleasures:
    1. Walking through the snowy village and taking pictures of the light fading across the hills.
    2. Taking my library books back and getting some new ones including a Debbie Bliss knitting guide for some inspiration - having made my 1st baby hat i need to crack on with the next project!
    3. Snuggling with the cat and my uber cosy fleece lined slipper socks courtesy of Santa.
    4. Looking forward to the homeade fish stew OH has been making.
    5. Getting a thank you card from my wee cousin - always nice to get good post not junk or bills!

Hope all those going through stressful times are managing to find some peace, especially kiwiblue and her OH.
    All the best , Karrie

    hi everyone

As I love this thread so much I decided this should be where I make my first post on MSE having been an avid lurker and learner for many months!
My top five OS pleasures for today:

    1. Watching the birds swoop down to enjoy the breakfast I put out for them on this bitterly cold day.

2.Spending a couple of hours making soup, vegetable curry and fish pies for the freezer and our meals this week.

    3. Receiving a text from a very busy friend - pleased that despite her manic life she took time to contact me.

    4. Feeling so grateful that I no longer have to be a wage slave and rush around like afore mentioned friend!

    5. Enjoying a lovely walk in the sunshine this afternoon with DH, then sitting down to a mug of tea and chunk of Christmas cake!
