  • My 5 pleasures for today are:

    1) Having a lie-in and reading some of 'The Suspicions of Mr Whicher' book (excellent - had to prise myself away from it!).

    2) Clearing up clutter in bedroom.

    3) Counting loose change and discovering there is £30, so that will help me enormously this month.

    4) Doing a plan for my work lunches this week, for variety and cheapness.

    5) Making gift tags for next Christmas from cards received for Christmas '08.
  • Hi everyone, thanks so much for your kind thoughts, it really has lifted our spirits.
    My five for today are:
    1. Its a beautiful summers day.
    2. Picking apricots off our tree and dehydrating them.
    3. sitting down with coffee and a book and just taking some me time.
4.Planning a new quilt - "storm at sea" seems most appropriate right now
    5. Reading the kind messages and support from you all, sooooooo appreciated.

I'm adding my weight to the virtual hugs for you, kiwiblue. xxx (What a lovely image of hundreds of international MSE-ers forming layer after layer of supportive hugs around you and yours.)

    1. Yet more decluttering and appreciative Freecylers.
    2. Seeing our garage empty, dust-free and de-cobwebbed ... what a vast space it is!
    3. Cleaning the washing machine, dryer and freezer in the garage ... looking like new.
    4. Blitzing stale bread into really fine breadcrumbs and dreaming of 'Queen of Puddings' just like Granny used to make.
    5. Washing some painted plates and ornaments from 'Miss Faversham's' shelf IYKWIM.

    Kiwiblue, ((((((hugs)))))))from me too.

    1. Seeing my son just back from a holiday in Europe. Did he bring me a present, well yes. A camembert cheese for a flavour a France bought from Mr. S reduced by 75% and a twin pack of selotape marked £2 picked up in Woolies for 40p. That's my boy! And I take full resposibility.

    2. Being warm indoors when it's so cold out.

    3. Having a lovely shoulder of lamb (yellow stickered and delicious) for lunch.

    4. Reading all the lovely positive posts on here over the last day or two, because I've been absent without leave.

    5. Knowing (well hoping) that tomorrow starts the first straightforward week for what seems ages.

    Bella.

    1. Making sure that everything is ironed, shoes polished and packed lunches done for my 3 kids returning to school (I am really sad that the holidays are over.)
    2. Finishing off my Forgotten Garden book - would def recommend.
    3. Playing games with my 5 year old son, I set the timer and let him choose what we will play. Otherwise I tend to do jobs and feel guilty for neglecting him.
    4. Wrapped my sons presents up for his Birthday on Wednesday (not more toys to store.) He will be delighted as one of his gifts is an everton kit that I know he will love. I like the feeling of being organised.
    5. Sent a text message to my friend who I feel I have neglected.

Big hugs and lots of love from me too Kiwiblue and OH.

    My delights for today are:

    1. Knitting lots more of my beautiful sock.

    2. Teaching DS (14) to knit as well. He saw what I was doing and wanted to learn. He's mastered knitting - maybe we'll try purling tomorrow.

    3. Listening to the sound of my two DSs spending their evening laughing non-stop while they played backgammon with each other.

    4. Cooking a huge pan of celeriac, leek and potato soup (and therefore using up lots of veg from the bottom of the fridge). There's enough for mugs of it for lunch tomorrow. I had a brainwave and made croutons to go with the soup as well using up our HM bread crusts and the end of the fresh thyme that I found in the fridge.

    5. Heading off to bed now with a good book, hottie and a mug of cocoa for a warm read before crashing out. At the new year, to save money, we started to switch off all the heating mid-evening and set it to come on again an hour before getting up. It's working really well and it does make snuggling up in bed a pleasure.

    Sunday blessings..

    1. DS and I made up our first order from a really cheap food warehouse (found here on MSE). Worked out what we would have spent locally for the same branded items, even including delivery we've saved a fortune! Now I just have to find somewhere to store it all when it arrives

    2. Had a lovely lunch of pate on toasted home made bread...trouble is it tastes so much nicer than shop bought that I always have to have 'just one more slice' :o

    3. DS bought me a deeelicious whoopsied chocolate muffin which I had with my afternoon tea

    4. My printer wouldn't print so I took it to the kitchen and threatened to drown it in the sink  . Cleaned it all up and it's as good as new - next time it needs a new cartridge I won't ask somebody else to change it

    5. Starting to write and thinking I'm not going to find five blessings today because nothing has happened/I feel a bit down/the phone didn't ring at all/Sundays are always so boring...then getting this far and finding I had no trouble at all!

    Hello everybody,

My five OS pleasures for Sunday are:-

    1) Making chicken and veg soup with the stock made yesterday from chicken thighs and cooking it in the slow cooker.

    2) Cutting open a bottle of shampoo and a bottle of conditioner and scrapping out the leftovers.

    3) Washing out and saving 2 x 50ml pots to put the shampoo and conditioner into.

    4) Re-using teabags, this is a daily occurance now so I don't think I can use this as a pleasure for much longer.

    5) My delight when my husband came home from working earlier than expected.

Hope everybody else has had a good day.
  • For Sunday:
    1) Made my own pasta - cheap dinner but made me feel like a gourmet
    2) day out to the museum - all free
    3) Making dough for doughnuts in my BM
    4) Staying on top of my washing, by doing a load a day
    5) Cutting open a milk plastic bottle to use as a storage container for DD's pencils...
