    1) Pegging the washing outside as although it is cold it is sunny!

    2) making a big pot of hm cream of vegetable soup out of leftover forgotten about veg.

    3) slow cooker full of half price braising steak in leftover red wine gravy with more of the forgotten (til now) vegetables. Smells lovely!

    4) Open windows for fresh air instead of using air fresheners.

    5) Knitting my friend a pair of fingerless mittens, she has ms and feels the cold.
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

    Hi all

Sorry to hear that Reverbe and Kerfuffle and others are a bit low - I hope that you will all cheer a little as the day goes by. This time of the year is always the most difficult and now that the Christmas consumer madness is over we can all hope for a little more peace - and don't forget that after the Winter Solstice (21st December) the days become longer and the nights shorter, soon we will be blessed with a lot more daylight.

I have skipped a few days here and there but hope to become more regular in posting. So here are my five for today:

1 - Glorious sunshine, not a cloud in the sky!

2 - A walk in Greenwich Park, starting uphill (as I was already in Greenwich) which also counts as a gentle aerobic workout!

3 - Two nice cups of green tea with my friend who I visited on my way back from the park.

4 - Using two of the "£5 off £25 shop" M&S vouchers (separately), first for regular shopping and second to stock up on half price organic pasta - I got 23 packs of org. pasta and 2 packs of 2 organic chicken thighs for the grand sum of £20.49!

5 - Another friend coming over tonight to have dinner with us. She will bring some HM dahl which I know is GORGEOUS (I have tasted it before), so I shall make curry and rice.

    Good night all!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Ooh, Caterina - thanks for reminding me about the M&S voucher - I'd forgotten all about it.

    1. Made a sort of red lentil pate for OH's sandwiches.
    2. Found some expensive-ish nice meaty pate reduced to 37p!!! It's use by today, but I've already scoffed nearly half, and I'll freeze the rest in slices.
    3. Bought reduced stir-fry pack for 25p - I never normally buy the pre-cut stuff but it was too good to miss!
    4. This isn't OS but I've been fretting about part of an MA assignment that I thought would take days and I did it in under an hour!!! Just wish the other bits were as easy to get done....
    5. Walked into town with my shopping trolley today to pick up the above bargains and watched everyone queueing to get into Sainsbury's car park! I love my granny trolley.

This is my first post on here but i've resovled not to just "lurk" anymore.
    1. Went for a lovely walk in the sunshine with mum and could actually see the beautiful hills and not just the fog.
    2. Found that we have a great farm shop a mile away
    3. Walked to said farm shop with OH up some very steep, hilly roads (felt like a long 2 miles) and stocked up on some cheap meat and fish for the freezer.
    4. planned a tapas supper with some hampery bits PIL gave us for christmas and some leftover new pots and dubious veg from the fridge
    5. Booked a 7 day free trial for OH and myself at the gym in our village

warm wishes to all who need them and thank you for this joyful and inspiring thread!

I'm definitely coming to yours for supper. I LOVE tapas. It's like having lots of different dinners all at once. We had tapas for New Year's Eve with friends and it was so delicious.

Caterina - you are so right, we out so much pressure on ourselves this time of year, it can be ultra hard. I felt 100% more positive as soon as New Years Eve was over and I'm sure part of it was all the mad socialising and present exchanging is over, the end is in sight and life will be back to normal soon!

    Reverbe - I have PM'ed you

Here's my 5 for today. Hmm having to think a bit!

    1. Returned lots of bits and bobs to Asda inc 2 tops for me and an anorak for DD2 that all didnt fit, all bought weeks ago and I had forgotten about them in the madness, so now am about £30 the better for it :)

    2. Also took back a Batman suit for DS that we decided not to give him thinking he's a bit old for dress up now. We had lost the receipt and on the till it came up at £6 instead of £12 but the lovely lady thought they would have them back in at full price so she phoned head office who said it was ok to refund us the full £12 :j

    3. Did not stay at Asda for lunch like we usually do. Its always really busy and stressful the food isnt great and the service totally abysmal, instead we came home and had ciabatta bread (not HM but maybe next time LOLO) spread with leftover pesto and topped with grated Smart Price cheese YUM

    4. Played board games all afternoon with the kids, I love board games, such fun , takes me back 30 odd years LOL

    5. Oh yeah last one. Had yesterdays leftover HM spag bol mix with some pasts for tonights tea, and DH had some leftover HM pizza from the other night
