Happy New Year one and all and esp Reverbe

People just dont think sometimes do they. I've been quite down on and off for ages now, someitme its just all too much and its really easy to get in a downward spiral from something as simple as someone not replying to your text.
I havent read this thread for ages - like well over a year - but I remember from before that committing to posting on here every day does help with the mindset of loking for positive things, like bellaquidsin said. Even if you dont feel like posting maybe a quick skim through will lift your spirits.

And can I ask Reverbe - where di you get the Starbucks vouchers from ? My DH works right next to Starbucks, and is hopeless at OS :rotfl: he would love the vouchers as he probably goes there most days anyway

I feel like I havent done anything much OS for the last year or teo either, its been a case of cope/survive/exist but have decided all that is going to change. So although I doubt I will get to 5 - here goes:-

    1. Finished my library book last night - it was FANTASTIC Peony In Love by Lisa See. Have ad it out for months, kept renewing it  then read it in 2 days!

    2. Started a new book this morning that a friend lent me - complete with reading it in bed during the lie in that hubby gave me :)

    3. Made tea in teapot today at lunchtime so it went further and we got two lovely cuppas each!

    4. Would love to add "bike ride with kids outside" but it turned into massive family argument as DS was so miserable and moany the whole time. But I will leave it on the list as DD1 had a lovely time on her (new for birthday in December been out on it about twice)

    5. Made spag bol from scratch with lentils to make it go further. and enough leftover for jacket spuds for lunch tomorrow.

    6. Had a family meeting after tea to get the kids to suggest teas they will eat, I am fed up of the moaning about all the meals and now we have a meal plan.

    Wow I have 6!!
Cool! Thought I'd be stuck at 3!!

1 + 2.Stripping last night's chicken and making chicken pie for tonight's tea and chicken soup for tommorrow. (and that counts as 2 :p )
3.Packing OH and the kids and the dog off for a walk so I could take down our tree (which was turning yellow), with a picnic of chicken sarnies, HM brownies and hot chocolate. (We won't mention the fact that I then spent 2 hours on the children's games console :shhh:)
    4. OH chopping up the Christmas tree for the fire (We will gloss over the ensuing chimney fire, but it was quite spectacular and the neighbours needed something to talk about. :silenced: )
    5. Finding a recipe on here for rum chocolate liquer to use up the Bacardi I won in a Christmas raffle. :j

Freezing the turkey stock I'd made in the slow cooker in an old milk bottle (wow I think that's a 3 in 1!), walking the dog and seeing how happy he was in the sunshine, getting a massive stain out of the carpet with a few drops of stardrops in record time, using old veg in the spag bog for tea (using reduced mince from freezer but forgot to put in the lentils) and freezing 2 more meals worth, stashing away a few bargains from Sainsburys (chocs mainly) for birthdays, mothersday etc, and collecting a book I'd been waiting for from the library and finding out it was brand new so an extra joy of reading a £19 book for nowt!
And, not so successful, trying to sort out the leak from the washing machine but flooding the kitchen twice...I'm trying again tomorrow!

Yes I agree. It was just the last straw that made me feel real bad over the hols.

Oh god It so does. I always make sure to read it however I am feeling, all the posts get seen.

I have a starbucks card I bought for myself for Xmas with a lovelywooly embriodered cover. When you register it you get sent stuff I think. This is the first I have had.I'd be happy to send him a few as I prob won't use them all but they must be used on the day shown and run out after that day. Offer is only for Jan.

    Friday blessings...

    1. knowing it's not just me who needs friends when I'm feeling down, and not getting any response (in fact been looking at my mobey all night cos I sent 2 messages to friends and they haven't replied) so :grouphug: dodgy hugs to Reverbe and anyone else who needs one.

    2. went next door and had a lovely cuppa (or 2 ) with my neighbour, first time we've been able to get together for a chin-wag since before Christmas. I love being back to normal!

    3. popped into the local shop for milk and there was this cream slice, all on its own, whoopsied to 25p, on its use by date, just waiting to be bought or it would be dispatched to that great cream-slice-land in the sky (where I hope to follow one day :rotfl: )...what was a woman to do?!

    4. DS fixed a broken kitchen cupboard door, which has been driving me crazy for days, without being asked :D

    5. Gave the dog a good brush, the cats joined in so they got one too, now all three furbies look smart as soldiers. It won't last though:rolleyes:
  • I've not posted on the forum for a while, but here are my blessings today:

    1) The satisfaction of cooking a healthy meal, loaded with vegetables, after the overindulgence of Christmas.

    2) Going through my finances and realizing that my debt is reducing by large chunks now. :j

    3) Reading Julie Walters' autobiography (it's very funny) - I used to read books a lot as a kid, and have recently rediscovered this pleasure. It's very relaxing, too.

    4) Just chillin' out, thinking of what has been achieved this year, and my plans for the year ahead.

    Hi Reverbe,

I got the tip for using a teabag twice on the site yesterday and thought I'd give it a try so the next time I made a drink I made one for me and one for hubby, he got the reused bag ! When he then asked me what I'd learnt on the site I answered his question with the question "How's your tea?", he said it was "Good", so I told him that's what I'd learnt, lol.

Five OS pleasures in your day today.

I'm scraping the bottom of the barrell today for 5 OS pleasures but here goes:-

    1) Spent 1 1/2 hours clearing snow with a shovel, no expensive gym membership fees for me!

    2) Have dried clothes in front of fire again, no tumble dryer again.

    3) Ate sandwiches made with yesterdays HM bread with cheese that had been previously grated and frozen for extra keeping.

    4) I do this everyday and today I realised that not everybody uses them, but I love to use a nice clean fresh cotton hankerchief instead of tissues.

    5) Another no spend day today. ( I said I was scraping the barrel.)

Sorry to those feeling glum, hope you feel better soon.
  • Ah that is a nice thread, didn't read all of it, but it's so nice to think about all the great things rather what didn't happen...

    Ok, so for yesterday:
    1. Re-discovered our Indian supermarket, they relocated and now have easier accessible premises (that is with a toddler in tow) and I bought 1kg of garlic (about 30 bulbs) for £2 and loads of other bargains. I wonder how they can sell fruit and veg so much cheaper than the supermarkets!
    2. Returned a Xmas gift to Next that is to small for my daughter and got her 8 pairs of tights instead that she really needed.
    3. Made lemon cheesecake for my husband, which cheered him up no end since he has a bad cold and is dying
    4. Made home-made gnocchi for tea, which were delicious and with the 39p potatoes from Aldi cost next to nothing...
