  • 1) Inventorying my freezer contents, and realising there's no need to go food shopping this week.

    2) Clearing the fridge by making use of the freezer

    3) Sorting out the leftover Christmas Cards and paper into a box for next year

    4) Enjoying a blissful lay in this morning and seeing the frosty white ground outside

    5) Planning meals that don't revolve around "snacky" food and getting back to a shred of normality. Meatballs tomorrow night! Back to balance!

  • 1. Doing a 'normal' shop in Mr. S and coming out solvent.

    2. A comforting bowl of homemade soup for lunch.

    3. Making cards all afternoon for DH to take in to work and hopefully sell.
He only has about 5 months to retirement so that will be the end of that outlet for my cards. I don't make a fortune but it has been nice to think I am getting back some of the money I spent on equipment and materials back in the days when I was 'flush'.

    4. Corned beef hash for tea. I have been through some hard times but had never made that before. I think I prefer my corned beef cold but it wasn't bad and may find it's way into my frugal retirement menus.

    5. Going to settle down with DH and watch a DVD while I knit.

  • - sitting down with a cup of tea and a dvd, in contrast the the mad whirl of train travel that has filled my last two weeks.

    - really appreciating my christmas presents for the first time since i was little, as I'm short of money for the first time in my life, so even the littlest gifts have made a big difference

    - gathering up some little bits and pieces that would have been thrown away in previous years - ribbons, beads, wrapping paper etc - and putting them away for next year

    - having a good snuggle in the lovely fluffy new blanket my mum got me :)

    - looking at my storecupboard and estimating that i have enough food to last about three months! haha

    Saturday blessings..

    1. Had the house to myself most of the day so no cooking, watched a little television then read, had a snooze, and later slopped round in my jimmys and slippers in candle light. Frugal and bliss

    2. Spent some valuable time here on MSE reading frugal posts, collecting more ideas for money saving in 2009

    3. Popped out to the local shop for a lottery ticket at 6pm only to find their machines were down. Just happened to notice the danish pastries were reduced to 10p...very frugally only bought 2 :o, one for DS when he gets home but he's not back yet. I wonder how long they stay fresh

    4. Also got a huge fresh chicken whoopsied from £6 to £1.25, thats now cooked for tomorrow plus. Runners were £1.75 to 25p, 3 packs now prepped and in the freezer. Don't feel so bad about the danishes now :D

    5. Have some things to sell but haven't a clue about ebay so DD said she'd do it on her account. Bless her :)
    1. 'Experimental' lentil soup in the slow cooker using stock left over from
    2. 2 gammon joints cooked in slow cooker overnight to be sliced for pack ups and frozen after eating some for lunch with parlsey sauce and new potatoes
    3. Knitting a couple more squares for my throw
    4. Storecupboard / freezer inventory well on its way
    5. Cleaning my bathroom with stardrops
Anywhere is within walking distance - if you have the time!!
  • 1. making a cottage pie with some left over beef from xmas dinner!!

    2. having left the chunky fatty bits of beef ready for a stew tommorow (5 dinners out of that one piece of beef!)

3, going for a long walk to co-op (2miles away) to see if any bargains - nothing to be found so spent nothing.

    4. en-route posted some leaflets advertising my night nanny service (getting new babies into routines and parents get a nights sleep whilst I am there) in some new build homes that are now occupied. (nothing ventured nothing gained)

    5. having a long chat to both my sister and mum on facebook

Coming home, even if it was 11.7 in the kitchen/dining room, now 13.5... underfloor heating takes a little while.

Finding hm mushroom soup in the fridge ready for lunch when we got here.

Started MIL's christmas cake, which is delicious

Having a stash of leftovers so I don't reallly have to cook much tonight.

Having DH home for another week. I might change my mind about that one later in the week!

ETA Philosophy is wondering whether a Bloody Mary counts as a Smoothie
  • My five for today........

Two large mugs of steaming hot tea in bed this morning.

Managing to get a load of washing, almost dry, on the line outside.

Having left over gammon and scrambled eggs and tomatoes, for lunch.

Watching Carry on up the Jungle on telly and having a really good belly laugh. Last saw it years and years ago and had forgotten just how funny it was.

Cleaning and setting the diningroom table with the gold fancy cloth and candles as DD will only be stopping by on New Year's Eve. We didn't see her for Christmas as she lives quite far away and had to work. Her Christmas prezzies are still sat under the tree.:j

;) Felines are my favourite ;)
  • Here are mine :)

    1) Rescuing 2 bananas destined for the bin into a lovely thick smoothie (or thickie, as I think it should be - the spoon stands up in it!)

    2) Having my darling H2B say he'll do the washing up for me

    3) The prospect of making meatballs for tonight's tea

    4) Cracking on with a bit more of my cross-stitch

    5) Hearing that my sister is proud of me for my OS ways :)
