Five OS Pleasures in your day today
Comments

1 ordering christmas turkey from the butcher
2 making a chicken pie for the first time ever
3 chatting to lovely customers at work
4 watchings kids open advent calenders
5 opening first christmas card0 -
I'm a bit stuck for five today. One of them might have been the lovely non-alcoholic ginger drink I bought in H&B. They were giving tasters away yesterday and I liked it so much I went back today to buy a bottle with my very OS OAP 10% discount. On the way home I fell and the bottle smashed.
I have managed to save enough chicken from tonight's tea to make a chicken pie when the family come on Monday as DGS was expecting it last Monday and his mouth was watering at the thought of it but I'd done shepherd's pie.
Had a quick look in Woolies but sooooo busy and such a mess and I feel so sad for all those poor folk loosing their jobs.
Sorry to be such a wet blanket. It's baking day tomorrow and I always like that so should be able to strike five tomorrow.

Hi everyone
My five for today
1. Giving hm plum jam to the Tai Chi group and talking about the food miles - the plum trees grow right outside our meeting place, the jars are recycled so only the sugar to worry about.
2. Swapping fish the OH caught with daughter in law for free range pork raised by her parents.
3. Managing to buy a thermette to reduce number of times we boil the kettle. Determined to reduce electricity usage.
4. Made hay box style mince casserole for dinner, worked well and saved heaps of electricity again.
5.Picked a large bunch of Christmas lilies and the perfume is divine.
Blessings be0 -
1) Made gift tags from old Xmas cards using pinking shears and recycled the remnants.
2) Resisted temptation to buy sandwich from shop at lunchtime and used up last slice of turkey in hm sandwich instead. Turkey, cranberry, mayo, beetroot and horseradish may sound odd but it was actually very tasty !
3) Avoided need for expensive therapy by vigorously brushing stairs and imagining them to be the face of a member of senior management who annoys me greatly
4) Resisted temptation ( again, twice in one day, I must have a little lie down to get over the shock ! ) to get take away for dinner and knocked up a nice soup from the remains of a casserole with a bit of fresh veg and some extra stock.
5) Not had it yet but just about to - nice soak in the bath by candlelight, yay !" Baggy, and a bit loose at the seams.. "~ November 8th 2008. Now totally DEBT FREE !~0 -
1. On a training course today, and got a freebie lunch .
2. Met up with another OldStyler this afternoon who works where my course was held - cooeeee pagan girl :hello:.
3. Managed to get three whoopsied root veg packs :j.
4. Lovely whoopsied sandwiches in Mr A this evening - :T to the very nice 'lady with the gun'.
5. Took dgs (aged 7) to Mr A's cafe for a snack and listened to him reading every sign he could see in the place. He has some learning difficulties, so this was an absolute joy to hear. His little face was a pleasure to watch when he managed to sound the words out.0 -
1 writing all my Xmas cards
2 lovely bowl of hot HM soup leftover from the other night
3 getting a few little bits to use as stocking fillers from Woolies including some pick n mix.. (still breaks my heart to go in there and even pass it in the street. I used to work there one Xmas and some of the staff are still there)
4 glass of M & S Port got as a birthday gift, iced mince pie free from last night's book group and Carol Vordermans last Countdown
and 5 OMG 5 made my first EVER batch of Cranberry and Orange chutney/relish/sauce for an extra Xmas gift to my flatmates parents who will probably be letting me spend Xmas Day with them. Never made anything like it before but found a recipe in one of Rachel Allens books which is totally YUMMY and incredibly cheap and easy. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
1. Persuading visitors that a walk and picnic in the country park is a much nicer outing than the Aquarium .0

Sure Frugal I was about to anyway...
Ok I don't know what the exact name is cos when I asked flatmate to photocopy it at their work they missed the title off LOL
Rachel Allens Cranberry & Orange Relish
A perfect Xmas Gift - will keep for weeks and weeks in a sterilised jar.
340g (11 3/4 oz) cranberries fresh or frozen
1 large pinch of ground cinnamon
1 large pinch of ground ginger
Finely grated zest and juice of 1 large orange (TIP zest b4 you juice - it's easier)
175g (6 oz)light muscovado sugar. (careful this isnt always labelled as such. I used what Sainsburys had next to the dark muscovado sugar - light brown soft. worked fine)
Place the cranberries (no need to defrost if using frozen), cinnamon, ginger, and the orange juice in a small saucepan and cook over a low heat, with the lid on, stirring regularly, for about 6-7 minutes , until all the cranberries have burst, Take off the heat and stir in the grated orange zest and sugar. Pour into sterilised jars.
That is really it. Simple as. Never made jam. pickles, chutneys or sauces before but this is really easy and no need to worry about setting agents etc.Hardest part was sterilising the kilner jars LOLWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0
