  • Hi Catrina, anything that saves £200 at the dentist has to be a pleasure.

cafelady, so direct debits do go down then? Ours was increased by £20 per month even though we are being very careful with useage. DH negotiated a reduction but it is still up.

    My pleasures today have been.

    1. Ironing to keep warm. With the iron on and the sun coming through the window my front room reached 25degs.

    2. Cleaning the windows outside in the sun (chilly though) after all the sleet and snow yesterday.

    3. Making shepherd's pie for tea tonight with the left over meat from yesterday.

    4. Making minted lamb burgers with the rest of the meat, for tomorrow, so that I won't have to wash the food processor again.

    5. Chicken and turkey bones in the slow cooker for stock to make soup tomorrow.

    Bella.

(bellaquidsin - love your idea of reusing your food processor to make a second batch of something else to avoid washing it up again. Ours lives in a crowded cupboard where everything falls out onto the floor every time I pull it out so that's a really common-sense move - perhaps I should make up a year's supply of burgers and rissoles in one batch !)

Sun shining today so enjoying that. Not really enjoying the thought of the Budget's temporary VAT reduction though. It has come at too high a price for everybody and has mortgaged all our futures (even if we hadn't contributed to the "excessive spending culture") for decades to come.

    Here are mine for today:

1 - All DH shirts washed (was planning to put outside in sun but frightened they might freeze solid so just hung them in the scullery), together with his martial arts robe that takes ages to dry (now drying on banister)

2 - Craft class: made a lovely hot water bottle cover from an old felted jumper that was in the felt box, and embroidered a (quite manky but still pretty) heart on it

3 - Found avocados reduced in Mr S and bought two packs of 3, we all love the stuff, in salads and sandwiches

4 - Also found reduced a pack of 4 sugar buns and ate one with a cup of tea.

5 - The second sugar bun:o greedy ol' me!

    Good night all!

Knitted my GD a lovely shoulder bag. It started to be a scarf but I got bored.
  • 1. The lovely cold bright winter's day.

    2. A long (50 mins) bus ride out to a small country town, for FREE. I love this bus pass, hope the government doesn't get so strapped for cash that they withdraw them.

    3. A great big pan of soup with butternut squash and lots of bits and pieces.

    4. Minted lamb burgers for tea were delish!!!!

    5. Cold as it is, I'm still managing to keep warm in my front room without any heat thanks to that lovely sunshine which warmed it up a treat earlier on.

    Hi Bella

Yes I nearly keeled over with the shock of it. Mind you, it was £37 earlier this year. I'll see what happens next spring when we come off our fix. Still, it cheered me up yesterday.
  • Hello:hello:

    Here are mine..

    1. Clearing space in the kitchen for my new breadmaker, which I am looking forward to collecting tomorrow.

    2. Waving goodbye to OH who was off to spend his boy's day out, (or as I call it-old git's day out :rotfl: ), doing voluntary restoration on old steam train carriages. Clutching his sandwiches and snacks, bless him.

    3. Watching a succession of birds and the squirrel taking turns to munch on the fatballs hanging on the bush, first the tits, then a starling, then a big fat pidgeon, the the squirrel, then more tits, then even a big, black rook. They must all be so cold, poor things.

    4. Preparing curly kale and a gem squash for our dinner, to have together with some sauteed spuds and 4 whoopsie lamb chops.

    5. Planning to welcome OH home later, with a nice welcoming glass of sherry to take the chill off his bones, together with a big kiss.:kisses3:

    :rotfl:

;) Felines are my favourite ;)

    Today's blessings:

    1. Managing until 4 p.m. without heating.
    2. Big helpings of lunchtime HM tomato soup from freezer.
    3. Newsy e-mail from a friend who I don't hear from very often.
    4. Out tonight to a function with (hopefully) interesting nibbles.
    5. Lousy cold seems to be easing its way out.

Not very OS today I'm afraid, spent a lot of money in vitamins and supplements and even treated myself to a (cheap-ish) lunch in a cafe in Central London today but I shall try:

1 - Looking at loads of swans swimming gracefully on Blackheath Pond - they seem to have taken residence there!

2 - Got Boots points and 3 for 2 when I bought the veggie Omega capsules that DS wanted - and a £5 discount of beauty products, which I shall use to get a Xmas gift for a friend.

3 - Found that Holland and Barret has a large tub of 1g. Vitamin C tablets which is cheaper than buying the one at GMC with my 20% discount, so got that instead.

4 - Scoffed a good few bits of premium panettone at a tasting in the food hall of John Lewis in Oxford St. - always worth visiting as they always have some gorgeous tasting or another!

5 - Glad to be able to afford the occasional treat such as my nice £5 lunch in a cafe near Oxford Street.

Here, it wasn't all that hard after all!

    Love to all

  • Not very much of moment has happened here today, but like Caterina I am going to try to count my blessings.

    1. Overslept this morning so had an unplanned lie in. Thankful that I do not have to race out to go to work, in the dark and the cold and damp.

    2. Had a cleaning session in the bedrooms, not my favourite job but it's nice when it's done.

    3. Made some cards this afternon whilst listening to an audio book - free from the library.

    4. A portion of stewed steak and mushrooms for one and a portion of steak and kidnet for one, combined nicely to make dinner for DH and me.

    5. Feeling nice and warm since dinner, even though I have no heating on at the moment.

    Bella.
